That's awful news. I saw them play live once; when I was at Nottingham Uni there was a piece of paper stuck to the wall of the refectory saying there was a free gig on at Central TV studios - Buzzcocks. "Boredom" has to be one of the best tunes of the punk era, and the best guitar riff 1,2,3,4
Very sad. Buzzcocks best days were way before my time, and I've really got into them only within the last ten years, but they've become my favourite punk band. Pete Shelley always seemed like such a cool guy too. My favourite:
Pete Shelley, along with Steve Diggle and Howard Devoto, made some of the best music ever recorded between 1976 and 1980. I only saw them a couple of times, back when they first reformed, but both gigs were great. RIP
I saw them at the Top Rank in Sheffield around 1978....they were excellent. I've still got the ticket stub somewhere...40p if I remember rightly.
I think I might have gone to the same gig. Late 80's maybe even 1990 - the poster appeared in the afternoon in the UNI bar at Leicester poly - later that evening we were in Central TV getting crushed with a load of aging punks. Fantastic band - glad I got to see them live. Shockingly young to die. RIP pete.
Saw them loads of times, never let you down .Met Shelley and Diggle after a gig in Leeds a few years ago, seemed really nice blokes. Part of my youth died yesterday. Rip Pete.
I saw them at top rank sheffield and at rainbow theatre london, at sheffield we were there hours early and we were invited in to watch them tune up and they came over for a chat top bloke top band.
