Are you on about England & the next world cup ? , or are you comparing Barnsley with some of the best players in the world ? I"m confused

France won the World Cup with a young team. Apparently you don’t win anything with a young team.

We have a young team, so no excuses for us not to win the league

When i referred to ‘ we ‘ I mean Barnsley.

Before clicking in the thread I thought it would be about the riots there these past few weeks over fuel prices.

You can win things with young teams but it helps if they’ve been playing together for a while like the Man Utd youth system with a couple of more experienced players alongside them

The people of France also seem to be able change the governments policies and not roll over and have their bellies tickled!

I think you should mention that France won the World Cup with a top quality side , irrespective of their age , there is no comparison with us in any context . France were the best side in the world cup & went on to win it , if we go on to win the third division title, then we will have been the best team in our league , however , that is still to be proven , hopefully it is .

They were the best team of a very poor set of teams. They basically lucked out... again.

We are one of the better teams in the league, but we also need the luck.

I disagree my friend, you do not win the world cup with luck & the best players in the world make up the poor set of teams . I have no love for the French in any capacity, but fair play to them , they are current champions of the world .

Then we’ll agree to disagree pal. Maybe my definition of luck is not actual luck... looking back at their first win Brazil were nobbled, something at the hotel the night before. They were not a patch on the team that had dominated the tournament. So I’m suggesting foul play.

Their second win, the stars aligned for them to win. Holland out, Italy out... a decent run in, and every one else not playing well. The only other team that got such luck was England, but they didn’t have the nuts or the manager to follow it through.

Obviously this is only how I see it, and I fully respect your view. But I see France as an ok team, who had an amazing tournament where everyone else looked shellshocked.

Think that’s harsh on the French. They’ve got quality in every position but more importantly depth in every position.

People get carried away by big individual names but the Argies, Portugal, Brazil etc rely on individuals & don’t have the squad the French do.

The French are the sort of team that have potential winners all across the front 5 & options off the bench.

It certainly wasn’t a weak World Cup.

Beating Uruguay, Argentina, Belgium & Croatia certainly isn’t an easy run for me.

It wasn’t a weak Euros when Greece won it either... it doesn’t mean Greece didn’t ride their luck. I think France have an ok side, but relied on poor performances of other teams win it. I personally didn’t see performances from them where I thought that they dominated the game... until the final against a one dimensional Croatia team.

Michel platini even admitted that the French has used “trickery” to get a more favourable draw in ‘98.
