We had a smaller budget than Burton last season. In fact we had the smallest in the division.

How do you know? I find that hard to believe having been to their ground.

Always found it odd when owners and coach's make that claim. We must have been low on the list but I doubt they all tell each other the figures

Do you believe it? How can a club who get 3/4k home fans have a bigger budget than a club getting 12k home fans? They must still have a bigger budget if so.

Absolutely I believe it. Turnover is not the same as budget.

Burton made over a million pound profit when they were promoted from League 1. We made a loss despite the 3 x bigger crowds and two Wembley finals. May be that's why they had a bigger budget.

Maybe our budget isn't one of the biggest in this league then as some like to think.

They haven't done anything too bad yet apart from the Morais appointment that lost us millions through relegation, but their is plenty they haven't done such as spend money (incomings will have been covered by sales), make sure stock doesn't run out, improvement matchday experience like they said they would etc. The only contract extension has been a measly year added to Mowatt. What a huge eight months coming up for them between the transfer window opening in January and the season starting in August. We will have a better idea then.

I’d be amazed if Portsmouth have a bigger budget than us, they’ve been down in the lower leagues a few seasons.

Every one of our players have had new contracts since we were last promoted so most are on contracts given out in the championship when we had all the extra TV money coming in & much bigger away followings coming to Oakwell.

Got to imagine Moore, Davies, Moncur, Thiam & Isgrove are on biggish wages & Potts, Lindsay, Pinnock, Cavare, Fryers, McGeehan, Mowatt won’t be on peanuts.

I don't know I was just going on the fact that even with the bigger away followings in the championship we only averaged 13./14k pompey have been averaging 18k even when they were league 2 they were getting 16/17k gates. More home fans more shirts sales programe sales=more revenue. It's news to me that Burton had a bigger budget in the championship than us.

Can't see pinnock been on a decent wage he was 4th choice at one point last season and we signed him from a confrance team. Some of the others your probley right.

I think if us & Portsmouth both stayed at league one level Portsmouth would end up paying higher wages as like you say they’ve got bigger crowds but in our first season down here I reckon we’ll definitely be paying out more in wages.

I don’t believe that Burton had a bigger budget than us, they may have had a higher average wage throughout the squad but there squad was a lot smaller than ours & they signed experienced loaners.

We had more than 2 senior pro’s for every position last season, think there was about 26 on the books after January

That isn’t quite correct in terms of spend under FFP rules in L1 and L2 an owner can gift monies that are counted as part of turnover. So you could in theory have an income of 100000 but pump 25 million in. Not that I am suggesting we can or should do this just that turnover isn’t the only marker.
