I mean that they're criticized more heavily than other white players when they don't play well, and aren't praised as much or to the same extent as others when they do play well. I don't know how I'm supposed to evidence that? Neither am I equating the mere concept of criticizing a black player with racism, thank you very much. Thiam, and possibly Cavare, has also been described as "flashy" and had his cars referenced on here. I haven't seen that about other players.
I think that's a load of crap mate..... Potts, moncur and even davies have had just as much if not more. But dont they count as they dont fit your agenda?
I have no agenda. Everyday racism and unconscious bias is rife everywhere, what makes this place so special then?
Not having that, Cavare gets criticised because he's rubbish not because he's black. Lindsay and Davies get arguably the most stick out of this current squad and im guessing nobody is putting that down to skin colour? Like I said before I firmly believe if any racist comment was heard at Barnsley games it would be policed by our own fans, certainly from the lads I know.
Cavare got some stick by a bloke behind me in the Ponty (lower west stand corner) last home game and nobody batted an eyelid. Some people sat around me and my girlfriend just laughed. I was amazed.
I'm struggling to grasp how you have heard racist abuse directed towards Thiam and Cavare when you state that you haven't been to a game for years. Just curious.
Absolute ********. They get criticism formbeing bad footballers just like a hell of a lot of white players do too
It's been all over this board and Twitter when it happened. I haven't directly heard anything, obviously, but I never said that either.
I never said white players don't get criticized. Neither have I said Cav and Thiam haven't been criticized for their footballing ability. I said they get more criticism than the other lads when they play badly and less praise when they play well. They're treated differently. No need for anybody to get wound up. I'm not having at a go at anybody in particular. It's a complex issue and I'm not attempting to take any kind of moral high ground with it. But I ask you, do you think black footballers are treated exactly the same as their white teammates in every aspect of their footballing lives?
If our fans can't face up to the fact that we have a serious problem with racism in the town then we have no chance. It's at the club, it's everywhere. Anybody caught being racist should not only face punishment from the club but by the justice system as well. Cavare is well aware of the comments, I believe he even tweeted out a monkey emoji at one point. Imagine what he'll say to other French players who could potentially sign for us? Too many on here and in the town are idolizing people like Tommy Robinson and his ilk. They believe the referendum gives them license to act a certain way. It's disturbing. Hearing any of that vile rhetoric home or away once is enough. It's 2018 for ***** sake.
I think most on here would call it out, but I think the reason it doesn't at matches is because people are unsure whether the surrounding majority are with them, or in sympathy with the neanderthals. We need some way to be able to identify who is against it. Perhaps the club could distribute badges or something that normal people could wear to identify they are against racism, so that when it occurs they might be able to judge if they are on their own or might expect some back up. The incident at Chelsea shows you can't tell just by looking at someone. I hear plenty at away games, and might say something if I could gauge who was like minded, but it is hard to differentiate in truth & I'm not ready to put my kids (& myself) in any danger if I'm not sure who might support me. Usually just move to another part of the ground if possible.
Stop guessing that people are racist just because cavare is ****. Something you would know if you were a Barnsley supporter
Who is trying to build a straw man argument? The point being discredited that was posted by Rotherham Tyke was... "Thiam and Cavare have fallen victim to it already this season on a number of occasions. Subconscious racism is also rife on here when it comes to those two too unfortunately". There is absolutely no evidence whatsoever to support this. I see lots of criticism on here for several players but the criticism is made because they have had poor games. Unless evidence can be provided that the criticism is based on colour and not performance in a game then I think people have every right to challenge an inflammatory statement like the one made. Super Tyke is actually more critical of Lindsay than he is of Cavare or Thiam.
I don't agree, certainly not on here (I can't comment about Twitter). You seem so sure that the sub conscious racism is a factor in the criticism but you seem unwilling to consider that this may be due to their performance. Other players get a lot of criticism too - some which I don't agree with (Davies) but this is not based on colour so why are you insisting that it is race based for Thiam and Cavare? Looking at the current BBS player of the season table they also seem to be getting some praise. Moore 41 Mowatt 40 Pinnock 32 Davies 23 Cavare 21 Dougall 19 Lindsay 19 Moncur 18 Potts 17 Bahre 17 Victor 13 Williams 12 Thiam 11 pinnilos 9 Woodrow 9 Bird 8 McGheehan 8 Fryers 8 Hedges 4 Brown 3 Smith 4 Walton 1
The pasty skinned t0sser I actually quite like Thiam. Not as a first choice player but I think he has a place in the squad. Cavare, no just no. Nice guy off the pitch by all accounts but like a little kid on it. Lindsay? I really don't rate him and will point out his faults when he makes them but I'll take the opportunity to say that I can't fault his professionalism or commitment to the club. I can see why he got players player of the year on his professionalism alone.
