I think three options would be fair. You could have the three suggested. Remain would need to get more than 50% to win and if it didnt then whichever of the other two options scored highest is what we would then do. The thought terrifies me though! I would just have to hope that remain get more than half!!
Why? Genuine question because I can't understand why anyone wouldn't want to find out what people want to do once the options are laid bare on the table. If the majority still want to leave, knowing exactly what leave looks like, then they will vote that and we'll leave. If people decide they don't want to leave on those terms and would rather remain then surely you want to give them the chance to say that? I would hope no-one would want something to happen if the majority of people no longer want it.
Even a staunch remainer such as myself would (perhaps reluctantly) object to such an unfairly framed referendum. Yes I’d personally like us to have a vote on the situation as it stands but it would have to be one which first and foremost offered equal precedence to the leave/remain camps. There would no doubt be a lot of wrangling about how this could best be achieved but I’m sure nobody on any side would seriously argue that a straight 3-way question would be fair. If we do have a second vote there can be no room for ambiguity or unreasonable division. I guess this would require more than 1 question to cover the various scenarios. Edit: Or 1 question with weightings as @TitusMagee suggested, or some transferable vote system.
I don't think No Deal should be on there as a viable option as it isn't one. No Deal simply cannot be allowed to happen and would be gross negligence on the MPs part if it did. To me the choice is simple, the deal we have (as it is apparently the best possible) or stay.
How can you have a democracy when the voters vote for one thing and then they say we don't like that answer so you have to vote again.
I do agree that no deal would be absolutely crazy but i think it has to be on the table as there is currently a real risk of it happening. It has to be fair if there is a second referendum. It is just one huge mess and I'm not sure what the best way to deal with it is. I think May has been bang out of order in postponing the vote though.
Because we lost the last vote and the people voted to leave That is what the majority voted for and we have to get over it.
You mean like having a General Election every five years? Maybe we should scrap them too. The world changes. New information comes to light shaping the best way forward. This "we've voted once and that's it" argument is mind boggling.
It wouldn't happen though if people voted to accept May's deal. MPs should then vote with what the public decided. If they vote to reject it and Remain then that is what should happen instead. No Deal would never be up for discussion then as it would be decided one way or another.
It isn't that simple. This wasnt a black and white choice like you are painting it- there is a huge difference between a deal or no deal brexit- let people decide on what to do next- especially if the MPs vote it down (which they will)
If people still want it then they'll still vote for it so checking how people feel now they know all the facts harms nothing. If people have changed their mind then it'll be a bloody good job we had another vote. There is no downside to having another vote as whatever wins is the thing that people want and is therefore the thing we should do, even if it's not the same thing as they wanted last time.
But It has now been agreed that lots of what people voted for was on a pack of lies. IE all that money to the NHS. So another vote without the misleading lies seems a fair option. If everyone votes as before then the country leaves the EEC. Plus I'd like to see the lying MPs Boris Farage Davis et al given prison sentences for lying and misleading.
So the next general election the party that wins don't get 5 years because the people don't like them not implementing their manifesto (like they normally don't ) let's have a re vote
Not sure on this but I think a no deal could put the country in contempt . A no deal as the Tories want or as boris said go whistle means all the legally binding documents and projects we have put our name to ar dismissed. If this happens not only can we be hauled in front of the European courts but also the wider international courts We could possibly become a rogue state. I don’t think the more responsible MPs on all sides of the house or the Lords for that matter would allow this but that is what a no deal could bring. The fekin incompetent Tories have ruined this country we have lost our triple A credit score under them the countries a laughing stock but we still have numpties towing the Tory press line over Corbyn . Ev a look at yer send ffs
We do have a revote. Every five years or less dependent on the political climate. Brexit is shaping up to be an utter disaster. The rest of the world is either aghast at our stupidity or laughing at us. Have a re vote to rest if the majority are still happy with the utter mess that's been created. Have a third in a few years if you like if things have changed. There should never have been one in the first place though.
To be honest im annoyed with myself at getting involved in a political thread on here when I said to myself I wouldn't haha! Nobody including myself is going to change their opinion. It is just wasting time really. If anyone has read all these threads and changed their viewpoint id be amazed. So im going to get some sleep
What happens? Brexit hasn't happened yet. But if I see the road I'm walking down is clearly going to take me off the edge of a cliff I'd be a fool to stay on it. However if people aren't going to take the word of those nasty experts I doubt they'll pay any attention to me.
