Think if we get an offer for Moncur we let him go. And I like him, but he just isn’t showing it when given a start in the league. Hopefully a lower end League 1 club will offer decent money for him and not a promotion rival. I can see a Bradford (given he came on and played well) taking a chance on him. Or a Wycombe/Southend if he wants to move down south. If we get offered anywhere around £250-400k he’ll be off.

If a L1 club Build a team around him he’ll do well. Try and shoe horn him on the left wing and he struggles. We need more than he regularly offers to our squad. Think he’s had his chance. Same with McGeehan now. He’s had a mini run. He just looks like he can’t find any form. He was a goal scoring midfielder when we signed him. If he doesn’t offer goals he doesn’t offer anything much else.

With Callum Styles coming into the squad can see Georgie boy moving on. Along with Isgrove, McGeehan and Bird on loan. Then we’ll have Dougall back, Styles and I think we’ll sign a couple of Wingers and a CM. Think one of Hedges or Isgrove will be sold or let go.

The midfield is the area that needs the biggest shake up. A quality midfield will take the pressure off the defence and also create more for the front two. It’s absolutely critical to get that right if we are to challenge to go up. 2 or 3 key signings to replace 2 or 3 who haven’t delivered could be the difference.

Exactly the points I have made through out this thread, but you have put more eloquently . The main front two require support & in my opinion Brown & Victor can only play bit parts & are not ready , at least one additional striker should be brought in .

How many squads in league 1 have 4 "ready" strikers? How do you get players ready not playing them too?

Our squad is huge. 27 players have pulled on a red shirt who are still on our books, and we've Styles out on loan who may yet come in after his loan term.

If you want more strikers, something has to give and we need to let some of the players who've been here a while and not developed move on. But I still think our issues are elsewhere. Our delivery to our strikers is commonly dreadful. And our fullback areas are extremely weak.

If it's a choice of which areas to prioritise over others, the striking positions would be the last I'd "strengthen"

In an ideal world I could see a case for one more experienced striker - epsecially given Woodrow seems to be a bit fragile, but its a far lower priority than sorting out the midfield and right back. In fact I would put a new keeper above another striker
I also think Brown is getting some unwarrented comment on here - probably because he is one of our own , but he is definitely good enough as 3rd choice striker and still improving - compare him with the kid we had from Chelsea last year and he is streets ahead- if you sign more experienced strikers how is he supposed to get the game time and experience.

Not sure that we should read too much into the possibility of Styles coming in and making a difference. I’ve not been following his progress at Bury but, on Saturday, he was an unused substitute against Exeter.

Just had a quick look on soccerbase and it seems he hasnt played many full games - he either starts and comes off around 60 mins or comes on as a sub for the last 20 mins or so - doesnt look like a regular league 1 starter at this stage

I thought that might be the case. Just not noticed him at all whenever I watched highlights programmes and you would want him to be a stand-out performer at that level if we were thinking of bringing him back into the fold. That's not to say he won't become a very good player, and I'm certainly not writing him off without even seeing him.

Like many others though I would rather see a couple of older heads coming in for the second half of the season. Getting tired of seeing us being bullied by experienced but less able players. Sometimes it's how big your heart is that wins you the ball rather than how clever your feet are. Moncur is a prime example, for me, of a supremely talented player who too often goes missing and who never "gets stuck in". He's not that kind of player.

Moncur could go for me though not to Portsmouth or any other current promotion rival. Any money recouped needs spending.
    For me we need...
    a genuine third striker
An experienced centre mid as we are desperately missing Dougall
Someone who can cause problems from the flank
    And strengthening at right back.

It's a lot to ask and we could rely on youth coming through like Brown etc. But if we do we may have to accept that we might not go up this year.
We certainly need a leader on the pitch and I don't think we've got one.
