Just been reported on radio Dee Darr there will be no extra additions if the club keep up the good form in the fixtures up to January. The board members must not actually have been watching the game on Saturday.
Well, how do they expect to multiply attendances. This is surely going to divide fans. Hopefully no subtractions though.
I don't mate I can only guess with the words they have used"there will be no aditions in January if the current squad keeps up the performances until then "that they are trying to motivate the squad.
Id imagine therell be nothing worse for a footballer than the threat of being replaced. Decembers a hectic time, the players need to keep focussed on the job with no distractions.
To be honest I'd be ok with no signings as long as we extend a few players' stays at Oakwell with new contracts and don't let anyone key (Moore, Pinnock) go, as well as don't let anyone at all go (Moncur to Portsmouth) to a direct rival.
It's surely a distraction technique. If we publicly state that we're actively on the look out for new players it alerts other clubs to the fact that we're keen to sign players. We look desperate and they are more likely to begin negotiations with an inflated value for their player. I cannot believe for one second that we're not considering signing cover at right back, goalkeeper cover, a winger(s), and even a centre forward of similar quality to Woodrow and Moore. If the Board's true ambition is to get promoted at the first attempt then it naturally follows that we have to strengthen the squad in the January window to cover the inevitable unavailability of current squad members through injury and suspensions.
Its inaccurately reported. The actual interview had Winklers answer that it was up to other people as to who was brought in. He was pushed further after saying he was happy with the players, and when pushed further more he said that if they were happy with the players it didn't mean they'd sign anyone necessarily. It was simple evasion of a question while supporting the squad they have. In McGeehans interview, he said it was good young players were being given the chance, he later said he was sure the club would be looking at how to strengthen the squad.
Surely whoever released this to the media (if someone did, because it came straight after a statement from Wilder that the Blunts will probably fetching in loan players in January ) they want their bumps reading because a statement like this will not go down well with the fans. Especially after the way we have been playing for the last month or so.
well having watched both interviews on ifollow, i'm more than satisfied that signing players is out of Winklers remit. Whether we do or we don't, we'll just have to wait.
It's clear to Stevie Wonder we need new additions next month if we are to stand any chance of promotion. I am sure our business savvy board realise it too.
Myself, I'd happily settle for another season in League 1 and assemble the right squad over the summer, rather do panic buys in the January sales. Two or three tweaks, in January, may well get us back to being promotion contenders, but not enough to make us Championship ready. The manager has a plan and it seemed, early on, that many players bought into this plan, but it seems to be getting somewhat stale and nobody can put their finger on quite why...
