    I don't disagree with your thoughtful post, the only things I would qualify it with are that as far as Chinese expansion goes, it seems inevitable, I fail to see how our membership of the
    EU will be a major factor in influencing that..
    As to Trump, at most he'll be gone in just over five years time, hopefully , and seemingly quite likely less than that...there seems to be no reason to panic and be influenced over a very long term decision by a US president who is only temporary.
    As to the Russia question, as most Remainers point out the EU is not fragmenting overall, despite the bull in the Express....in fact having seen how difficult it is proving for us, the likelihood of a country tied into the Euro being able to leave seems remote. From a security and defence angle nothing has changed, currently Nato is still the bulwark that countries under a perceived Russian threat can rely on, in fact if full scale hot war broke out, it is the only bulwark they can rely on.
    Our leaving the EU does not affect Nato, however the plans to form an EU Army could...but at the moment that is a different question.
