Are top of the league. They look very ordinary. Who made the mistake for the goal and passed it straight to their player?
Like I said earlier this week, my mate who is a season ticket holder at Pompey says they are bang average and that he is unsure how they are top of the league: at least I can now agree with him
I was disappointed... heard a lot about them...and thought they would rip us a new one down the flanks. Their overall football was no more than avarage. .and we passed them off the pitch. That must have been a bad display from them....No way are they top of league on that display...but their game management (That word again) gets them a point. ....when are we going to join in??!
I’d possibly say the weather might’ve had an impact on their performance? But yeah they weren’t good. I didn’t go to the Donny game but apparently they looked better. I’d also say that Walsall and Luton looked better and offered more of a threat. I suppose we can’t judge them on 90 minutes.
Mowatt made the clearance straight to their player but the goal was athe culmination of a passage of play that started with Davies taking a free kick on the edge of his box and rather than lump it upfield he played a ten yard sideways pass to cavare who had a man on him. Cavare subbed at half time, but it was poor by Davies TBH
Cavare seems to be at least partially carrying the can, as Stendel in the post match press conference said he was subbed because of his performance, not because of injury or for tactical reasons. Up to that point Mowatt, along with Jackson had been the best two players on the pitch in my opinion. i'd just commented as such to one of my mates, when it happened. Me & my big mouth!
He didnt cover himself in glory but I think he was played into trouble by Davies when he needn't have been
Portsmouth reminded me very much of Cardiff last season. Not pretty, but very effective and use a bit of gamesmanship and get into the referee, and have that knack of taking a chance when it's created, or as was the case today, presented for them, as most promotion winning sides do. What today's performance should do though is give both ourselves, and many others in the division, a bit of belief that sides at the top can be beaten, can be caught, and there's so much left to play for. We got a point, deserved all three, played well for long periods of the game. Only concern for me was that our heads seemed to drop as soon as they'd scored, and we came out in the second half still looking a bit sorry for ourselves. Could be a crucial point.
I made the same comment in the pub after the game. They looked like a Warnock team. Sadly that means they WILL be promoted.
This tactic of Stendel has been an accident waiting to happen and today it happened, Wycombe last week Lindsay and Pinnock were having to get back to each side of the area before Davies would release the ball to either one of them and not a single Wycombe player in our half. That goal was down to Stendel yet Cavare got the hook for it. Pack it in DS we aint got the players to play that tactic and also get a man on haif way when oppos have a corner to clear some bodies art of the area and give us someone to hit when we gain possession.
