I wasn’t impressed. Gave them far too many soft free kicks we’ve had worse though. And at least he didn’t fall for their penalty dive.
He saw through their diving and theatrics but he didn’t punish them to the law and his keeping up with play was woeful imo but we’ve had far far worse than him
I thought he was pretty poor but certainly not the worst we've seen this season. He gets some credit for not giving a penalty for the blatant dive.
Average for me but we have had alot worse this season eventually booked that lad for diving after the 2nd time should of stamped it out earlier. Got a few wrong but he is only human I suppose.
Would have him every week. Showed his high level experience. No complaints with the bookings he gave. Generally let the game flow taking into account the conditions. Didn't fall for Pompey theatrics. Didn't fall them tamely dropping to the floor. Dealt with time wasting really well, even warning their keeper when he had to go into his own fans to fetch the ball due to our lack of ball boys.....
Terrible nonadvantage he played near the end when they flattened Brown with Moore heading towards the corner flag with 2 defenders on his back. How the hell he saw that as an advantage is beyond reasoning. He struggled to keep up with play, and the time it took to re- start the game when they scored was poor. He should’ve been at that end of the pitch ushering them back to the centre circle instead of being stood in the centre circle with his back to them. I agree we’ve had much worse, but for an experienced ref, he was not that good I’m afraid.
Excellent performance, the only real criticism was playing advantage when Moore was down the right late in the half & surrounded with no real advantage. Funny to see the bias on here, lots commenting on the Pompey players dive but no one mentioning Moore’s. Also had to laugh at our fans going crazy about McGeehan’s obvious booking early on, about as clear of a yellow card as you’ll see
John's son plays alongside my lad for an U13s team in Horsforth. Nice bloke. Thought he was good today which makes the touchline small talk easier tomorrow. He refs the lads occasionally when he is around on a Sunday. Sent the opposition coach off the other week, one of the funniest things I have ever seen. Priceless.
I have to say, after him falling for the theatrics that lead to McGeehan's booking (in my mind a perfectly timed tackle & I had a fairly good view in the East Stand Lower), he went on to have a pretty decent game. We have had a lot worse & it's good to see their yellow card for cheating. 7/10
Ask him why he didn’t usher the Pompey players back to the pitch when they scored, and simply stood there in the centre circle with his back to them as they blatantly wasted so much time and took the piss from his inaction. Also, would you remind him that advantage is supposed to benefit the offended side and not penalise them.
Not just our matches, what I’ve seen from others as well. Incidentally, apart from piss pot cup, I’ve seen all our home games and 6 away games. There was a reason why we didn’t have any refs at the last World Cup, and it wasn’t because none of them could make it.
Blatant red for the foul on Pinillos for mine, if McGeehan's was a yellow (and it was). Number 32 should have had two yellows for simulation and the full back conned Moss umpteen times. Very poor positioning from Moss all the way through - when they had the ball he got forward with them but was miles behind when we had it up top. Hence he missed every (and there were loads) push, shove and shirt pull on Moore and gave Hawkins and co loads. Unconscious bias, poor positioning, bone idle lazy, call it what you will but it's piss poor from someone who's supposedly a top half dozen ref.
