Who are we on? 'Arry looks to have the favourite's chance in what seems a less than vintage year. Lewis Hamilton ought to be in the frame on account of his achievements, but 'personality'? Nah. Not the sort the great British public take to, I'd hazard. Tyson Fury seems to have taken a huge plunge in the betting. But will he be on the shortlist? If he makes the cut, he apparently has over 1 Million followers on social media. Not my cup of tea, but his overcoming of mental health issues (to say nothing of substance abuse) and his never-say-die show against Wilder, where he was arguably robbed will appeal to many.

Kane looks a sure thing when it can be argued he shouldn't have even made the short list.

Ye Kane’s a brilliant striker but he was a tad fortunate to have two dreadful teams in our group & to score a few pens.

Don’t think he played anywhere near as well as he regularly does for Spurs

He didn't get to the World Cup final and won nothing with Spurs. He scored some World Cup penalties against minor nations and went missing in the knockout stage.

Then you have Ronnie O Sullivan and Tysoe Fury overlooked.

Has to be said the show is toe-curlingly turgid!

I'll be voting for Thomas. Can't be doing with Lewis Hamilton.

I would’ve voted for Hamilton. 5 time world champion is pretty special.

I don’t watch any cycling so I can’t comment on Thomas but he won, so congratulations to him.

I'd have gone Lizzie Yarnold as traditionally we are rubbish at winter sports.

Pleased for Geraint, he's been very successful and is a good bloke.

Netball team of the year? Not for me tbh. Sounds like a diversity quota had to be met.

    What a ridiculous comment.

What kind of diversity quota? Going to assume you mean women, in which case without the team award, there was 4 male winners and 4 female winners.

How perfectly diverse. Sort of sums up the BBC's approach nowadays.

In terms of impact, the men's football team had by far the biggest effect upon the country. Between the World Cup and the Nations League, hands down, bar none, end of, they were the ones who really gripped and inspired the public. Are we saying we can't acknowledge them unless they bring home the World Cup? Even in defeat their achievements are orders of magnitude greater than the netball team.
