Unfortunately that’s not how football works now. All the top 6 clubs have 3 aims, premier league, champions league & qualifying for the champions league. Wenger & Van Gaal both won FA Cups but it didn’t keep them in a job as they didn’t get top 4, Benitez won Europa league but didn’t finish top 4 so it’s harsh to criticise a manager for not winning a cup when he’s achieved the clubs aim of making the top 4. I don’t like this but it’s the way it is. Klopp & Pochettino have met their owners expectations, Mourinho hasn’t. Regardless Mourinho should never be compared to Klopp or Pochettino, there’s only one fair comparison in the league & thats Guardiola. Man Utd have the biggest wage budget in the world, more than twice what Spurs’ is & a lot more than Liverpool’s. Only City come close. United should be challenging for the league & champions league every season. Klopp’s net spend is about £300m less than Mourinho’s yet he had them finishing 2nd last season, took them to a champions league final & plays incredible football to watch. Pochettino’s improves most of them players, I can’t think of a single player in his squad that haven’t got better under him except probably the sub keeper Vorm, there’s loads that are performing nowhere near their best at Man Utd
Given the choice between an attack-minded manager and a bus-parking specialist, I know which one I'd want...trophies or not.
That's excellent, Can you imagine the board saying to Moyes: "we're paying you anyway, so get back in the dugout"
Same as a few of the top managers imo look at pep he had one of the best squads in Europe with Barca went to Bayern good squad in a poor German league bar a few teams now at city with a great squad wouldn't even like to think about the cost of the city squad he has. I'm not saying pep hasn't done well or isn't a good coach but would be interesting like you say to try his hand with a club with not so many riches or a mid table championship club see how he gets on.
