Just my opinion like but I fail to see how a player stuck out at the far end of proceedings can influence and cajole his teammates. It's a bit like me shouting to my wife, me downstairs, her upstairs. She takes no feckin notice. (Nothing against Davies as a player btw)
Yep, leaders should be in the middle of the park. Don't think Davies needs any extra pressure either...
Have to agree. Ideally a midfielder or CB for me. Someone who can have a word with a player if needs be. A keeper can't be doing that. That said the role of the captain can be overstated. Hammill was more of a captain than anyone last season, even though he didn't have the arm band.
No I've never been a fan of it. Davies isn't even vocal with his back 4 so I don't see him as a on the field captain.
Some people were bragging last week that we haven't fielded a player over 25 this season ... or sumert like that (I tend to nod off when the propaganda starts) Anyway, Davies being Captain is just the reality of the under 25 thing .. that he, in the managements opinion , is the best we have for that role. That shouts... we need more experience in the out-field to me.
I think we need to point out Davies is just ****, he can't command his area let alone the pitch. He has profiteered from a wedding bouquet style game of 'let's see who's captain'. We have needed a new keeper for 3 seasons now. Eastwood from oxford is my realistic shout
I don't think Davies should be captain. But I'm unable yo grasp why a player under 25 cannot captain a team of under 25s. You talk about experience Alex mowatt has played over 120 times in the championship bet they weren't many shrewsbury players last night have that experience under the belt.
I prefer a CB or DM/ CM as captain to be honest. I reckon Dougall may become our captain next season?
I'm of the view that a captain should be someone that A) issues commands to fellow team mates B) can be there when a player is getting spoken to by the referee C) is loud enough to be herd I remember when we gave the captain's armband to Jacob Butterfield I believe this was to increase his value as he was off to Norwich on a free. So maybe Davis is off hence make him captain to increase his value ?
Davies shouldn’t be captain he’s not vocal enough we need someone in defence or midfield who can get in the middle of everything
He was off to Newcastle for a couple of million then got crocked. He later joined Norwich and the club agreed an undisclosed fee before it ended up at a tribunal. He was made captain early that season because Hill suggested it would help Jacob focus on football rather than the lifestyle of a footballer. It was merely a management tool. I imagine that having a 21-year-old as captain probably did help garner attention, mind. The captain has a lot of responsibility off the pitch. That’s their main role. I can’t be arsed going into each thing they do, but yeah, that’s usually why they are chosen. Players do not need an armband to ‘lead’. It’s a cliche, but you want 11 captains out there.
Whilst you're right about 11 captains isn't it true that the wctuaa captain has more sway with the referee? More allowance to have a word rather than just a spoilt brat crying at him because he didn't get the throw in?
Aye. And if your captain is a keeper, then your vice captain in the outfield assumes those responsibilities if necessary.
1) If we have one, who is the vice-captain? 2) Referees wouldn't tolerate any player questioning him bar the bloke with the captain's armband
