Joe Be interested to know your thoughts. It's like a catchy, more accessible version of the Sun Ra Arkestra
Was he with his full band or just him and a piano? I've not managed to see him yet, but it's one of my main tasks for next year.
I like it but I thought it was not quite as good as the previous two. Severed was probably my track of the year though. Saw them live in Berlin in November, absolutely awesome.
It was more accessible than their earlier work, so I've been able to play it in the car without complaint from the wife and children. Live, they're one of my favourite bands, and worth a trip on every tour. Mariners Revenge Song is worth the trip alone.
It was the first time I'd seen them in Berlin and they definitely didn't disappoint. Just a pity they play so rarely in Europe though. Not sure why your kids don't like them, our 7 year old loves them! She was easily the youngest audience member in Berlin, spending the entire night on my shoulders. Colin Melloy looked directly at her during O Valencia and cracked up laughing, which made her night.

To be honest, the biggest objection to listening to them would be from my wife, who's a little more 'commercial' in her tastes. The kids like 'the whale song' and I've played them The Crane Wife trilogy, etc but not quite sure that they're ready for The Rake's Song just yet, which is another live favourite of mine. More importantly, I don't yet trust them not to tell their Mum that Daddy played them the song about the man who kills his children. The youngest one, just turned 6, is particularly perceptive in picking up lyrics, which I found out to my cost. After playing the new Arcade Fire album in the car a few months ago, she went a couple of weeks without comment and then, in a seemingly random moment, asked "Mummy, why do some girls cut themselves?" Car playlists. Such a minefield!
Definitely. The Holy Bible by the Manics is certainly one I avoid playing when I've got junior in the back! Come to think of it the missus wouldn't be too impressed with that either (though she's a massive Decemberists fan so I'll forgive her!)
