Ooh yes I have to agree. Nowt better than a lovely walk on a fine summers day around......... What?...... A tennis court? One for the fatties probably, most people would complete a lap in 2 minutes

An absolute sporting icon, to me. Gave me some of my favourite moments watching sport.

Agreed, one of the four men who have given tennis its golden era. With the level and quality of opposition to win three grand slams and two olympic golds is an outstanding achievement. I hope he enjoys his retirement he's very wealthy and I hope his injuries heal.

The Olympic wins didn’t move me much, but watching him (at daft o clock) win the US Open was special, and after all the losing finalist efforts in slams (Australia every bloody year) and ‘nearlys’ at Wimbledon, to then see him achieve that, wow. One of those memories that makes the hair stand up on my neck.

I grew up on Jeremy Bates. It was so bad. Used to ask my dad “if Wimbledon is the biggest prize in tennis, in our country, why are we so bad? where are the Brits?”

Then came Henman. Beautiful player to watch, had some amazing shots, but he used to crumble. He came close once or twice, and if anything, his era was like a prequel to the Murray era. It made me (as a fan) want it even more.

So to finally have a Brit as one of the best was unreal. To see him win Wimbledon is right up there for me.

I love him as a personality too. He’s real. Great humour. Lives for tennis. He has that mardy demeanour on court too. I loved him. And let’s not forget what he went through as a young lad at Dunblane.

    Sir Andy Murray indeed.

Or, we accept he’s Scottish and is entitled to be proud to be so.

I suppose you forget that he was replying to a journalist taking the piss out of the fact Scotland hadn't qualified?

    It was a light-hearted exchange
Journalist: are you going to be supporting Scotland at the world cup?
Murray: I'll be supporting anyone but England haha:cool:
    Tim henman *laugh*
Journalist desperately trying to make some money: *writes* Andy Murray says he hates England and will support anyone they play against.

Cost me just shy of a grand when he beat Federer at the Olympics - it was the last leg of a tenfold. Git.

Incredible sportsman though, in a golden age of tennis.

I’m proud to be English, but I don’t want Scotland to lose everything? So why should I accept that of another Brit? Especially one that as a youth used the “English” Lawn Tennis Association money and facilities to start his career. I am glad he’s gone, haven’t watched much tennis since he broke through with his anti English views.

I’ll be more upset when Federer retires.

Reminds me of Alistair Cook in that respect, got every bit of talent out of his body and achieved far more than players with a load more talent.

It was a joke directly replying to a joke from an English journalist about Scotland failing to qualify for the world cup

I'd hope we wouldn't see any more of him, but doubtless the BBC will find a commentary job for him.

I don't like Formula One so have to admit bias. However, Lewis Hamilton must be a great driver. Just like Murray must be a great tennis player. Thing is....Murray has never had the luxury of a tennis racket significantly better than anyone else in the sport to rely on.

So the greatest sportsman of our lifetime, originating from the British Isles, announces his retirement and that's the best you can come up. FFS.
