What makes you think an ex footballer is the right choice for a CEO. I’d rather have someone with good business and communication skills who has an interest in the football. There aren’t many ex footballers with the knowledge to run a football club.

It’s almost like, despite banging on about it daily, he has no idea what being a CEO involves.

Can’t think of one well respected footballer who has a reputation for running a multi million pound company successfully.
Suspect you actually mean a Director of Football.

Ex footballers don’t usually become CEO’s - very little in relation to the 2 roles.

That’s not as crazy as it seems.

Nice don’t attract that many more fans than us compared to the size of them, and L1 in France isn’t money laden either.

Coupled together with their higher wage structure, then you can maybe see that Barnsley, with our player sales record, could be a better business bet. A smaller business, but a better business, where they also get 100% of the say.

Time will tell, but as Chien Lee etc have always said, Nice is structured completely different to Barnsley in ownership and managerial terms.

Ganaye leaving is a bit of a shame, as he does seem to have done well. I’m not that worried about trying to look ‘what it means’ though as I think it’s pretty much a no brainer for the lad, he’s French, it’s a club who are in and around the champion league, and it’s based on the French Riviera. Let’s be honest it’s a better draw than us.

What is worrying though is the stuff posted about the reasons why Nice are looking for a new CEO in the first place. I can’t judge yet as we’ve sold and replaced so far in the only transfer window the new regime have had and are having a pop at promotion this season, so I’ll wait a bit longer before getting too panicked - they are though in it to make money, it’s whether they make it by being happy sat in this division selling players on for profit at first opportunity or want to make a return by actual progression of the club to increase the actual net worth of the club and increase income from TV and sponsorship deals.

On a side note - with the income received so far from transfers surely they must be close to having recouped what they paid already here at Barnsley.

Also do we know for sure that GG is definitely going or is it just that some journalists are assuming that it’s the case due to the fact both are owned by Chien and GG is French and regardless of some of the posts above going to Nice is definitely a step up for him
I must admit I think it’s likely but let’s wait and see what happens. I’d be more concerned if Stendel was going

Ganaye was appointed before the current owners were in place. It's a natural opportunity for him to be in the running for the Nice job given that he's dealing with their owners on a daily basis in his current role.
As for players going I find the feeder club argument a stretch. Maybe there are a couple of players here that Nice could be interested in. Pinnock. Maybe Mowatt might thrive where pace is less important. No rumours of anybody heading for France so far. In reality we would need players performing well at Championship level to interest a top four team in France. If we, as a club, start to perform well in the Championship and Nice are not in Champions League contention in France then, in terms of a cash return for the owners, I'd suggest us getting to the Premier League would be a far more lucrative vehicle than Nice finishing outside the Champions League places in France.
You could make an argument that, with resources allocated judiciously, WE are in the box seat.

That being said I'm not blind to the worrying aspects of their tenure at Nice or their attempts to buy a club in Spain. Open mind for now.

Nice are challenging for a Champions League place. They're in a league that doesn't have all that much strength in depth so the investment needed to do so is a fraction of what is required in the English Premier League. However the rewards for doing so are just the same and they're huge.

I'm a romantic. I'll never believe the Premier League is beyond us, even without rich owners and huge investment. But with all the will in the world, we are never going to be in the champions league.

It's on a Twitter account of a French newspaper with over four million followers, so I would imagine it's legit. If it wasn't I suspect we'd have released a statement rubbishing the reports.

Not sure if Ganaye will be a miss or not. He's overseen a relegation whilst with us. As for the good stuff I have no idea. We don't know what he's been responsible for as a positive change for our club. We don't hear him being praised by his bosses so we don't know how good he is. Obviously he's rated if he's going there, but why he's rated we have no idea.

Agree with some of what you say there Jay but if you look at some of the names at Nice both manager and players there must be some serious investment there and to make that viable they pretty much HAVE to qualify for the Champions league every year.

I suspect you are right but I’ve seen plenty of uk twitter feeds from “respected” journalists which have jumped the gun on manager and players. Though respected and Newspaper over here is a bit of an oxymoron

He's a French man being offered a role in his native country.

Chien Lee will have the very best people working with him in his business, and I have no doubt he will appoint someone more than capable of filling Ganayes shoes, if he is leaving.

OGC Nice are struggling to compete in Ligue 1, compared to their situation at the time they were purchased. They finished 4th the season before the takeover and 3rd in the consortium's first season. They slipped to 8th last season and are currently in 6th position. I've posted before that there has been a transfer surplus every season since takeover. Well this season's surplus is currently £30 million. No wonder the natives are restless.
