I have done this trip 3 times (work!) Make sure you visit Niagara on the Lake as well as Niagara Falls. Itinerary here: https://www.titantravel.co.uk/desti...eat-cities-of-eastern-canada-with-nova-scotia
No I definitely flew to Calgary over the Atlantic, and when I got there I was greeted with these minor hills, which are within half an hour's drive of my sister's house and most definitely in Alberta. So to suggest that Alberta is flat is not right. Parts of it are, but it also has some of the most spectacular scenery in the world. Edit - Incidentally that sticky uppy thing to the right of the photo is the Eddie Edwards Ski jump, which is obviously built into the side of the hill at the Olympic Village. If anyone ever goes to Calgary, not in winter time, be sure to go to the village and take the go cart ride down the hill. Absolutely one of the most fun things I've ever done.
I’ve not been to Canada but I’m interested in most peoples views that the French Canadians are friendly people . I’ve been on holiday to a few places where there have been large groups of French Canadians there , most notably Costa Rica last year , and their behaviour was appalling particularly towards the hotel staff , it’s put me off going
You are correct. When I lived there my job was truck driving and in those days there were no satnavs.I did a few trips up to Quebec.A couple of times I had to ask for directions they either ignored me or spoke to me in French. They are the most ignorant people on earth. And also Allendale Red If you go to Canada make sure you have good insurance. One time when we went the wife was opening a Can with a tin opener and the opener broke and sliced her finger open.I wanted to superglue it but she wanted to go to the hospital.I said it will be expensive but no.It cost o see the doctor and have two of those stitches put on 780dollars.That was around £500.We claimed it back ok but it had to be paid first.Paracetamol 20 pence in Asda 8dollars over there.
There's one of those Michael Portillo train journey programmes on BBC2 this evening and it starts in Halifax Nova Scotia. If you can stand the sight of his pink keks it might be worth a look.
Thank you all so much for sharing your experiences, ive budgeted about 4k for the trip including car hire, are motels easy enough to come across?
Around the big cities and Quebec City is lovely, motels easy to find-ensure when you pay by credit card they charge you in $Canadian as you bank in UK will give you a better exchange rate than the motel converting to £s. Out in the sticks in Nova Scotia finding somewhere to stop that sells lunch can be harder than you think. Service stations let alone motels can be literally hours apart so plan your journey accordingly. Buy a spare petrol/diesel can for peace of mind.
Also planning to go to Toronto next month for a week or two, are air BNB's cheaper/better than hotels?
Did that trip in the early 70s with a car full of furniture when we lived there. Took us about 3 days amazing trip. My advice would be to watch your speed and don’t cross any double lines even when the road looks clear. Highway policing is done by Mounties and they have some very clever traps. It’s a bit scary sitting in a cage in the back of the police car while he writes your ticket.
Hi I live just outside of the falls, Been here 32 years now, pm me if you like. We are going out east to Halifax this August, Lad lives in Manitoba, Huge country, to me Best in the world.
