Nothing could be imposed on us by the EU that even rivals what our own Tory govt have already done to us tbh ,
There are things the EU have got wrong but the good intentions are there and they are not averse to tweaking by members states . The tories don’t support the we all move on together policies of the EU they are by nature a divide and rule type govt . As are the stalinists in the labour movement by the way .
If we don’t like something we should fight to change it with our MEPs not take the balll home . We are too far down the road for that to be happening to just up sticks .
I have been to many soul venues around Barnsley in the past the Londoner in Monk Bretton springs to mind as does the Jesters at Mexborough .

Currently both Wales and Cornwall will suffer the most losses of EU funding following Brexit, but just to reinforce the posters comment, personally I know we have had large amounts of ESF and other EU funding to lessen the impact of the closure of the mining industry having managed several projects around Barnsley. What EU funding we get now I don't know because I have been retired 10 years and I am no longer in the loop.

No doubt our area benefitted greatly and that was one of two factors that weighed heavy on my mind when voting. I am far from convinced our own government would have helped us to the same extent - including blair and brown. However, I did further research on the 2014 to 2020 budget, we were downgraded for aid and can only see this getting worse as the EU seems hell bent on expansion into poorer countries which will further skew the criteria against us.

I know an old soulie who in later years had dealings with Russ winstanley. He had remortgaged his house to buy what was then thought to be the only copy of the Frank Wilson record for about £50k or something. A year later another copy emerged, that must have been gutting.

Going forward looks like no pie from EU even if we had stayed in. All those countries in blue on the map getting the big aid to attract jobs there unfortunately.

Btw supertyke, Marlon, tosh et al. It's a pity our politicians can't have a sensible and detailed debate like we've had. Shall we start a political party. ??

No that's just a guess. There is literally nothing to suggest that Barnsley would get no funding going forward. There is however a hell of a lot of evidence of how shoddily the Tories have treated this area.

    Wow that is devastating .
I was never after exclusivity from my collection tbh but just to have some music that not everybody could get .
It would be hard to understand with instant downloads etc of any music they care to listen to . Not many were daft enough to pay like I was lol . Paying four or five times the normal rate but it was cool then but if you took them anywhere to play you had to have your wits about you or they’d go .
Mick Tonra had a massive collection of 78s which used up go down really well on weddings etc and were worth s few Bob . He had a load stolen on one occasion but he’d left his gear overnight to collect next morning which never happened again .

I am more than convinced that our govt would not have helped us the same. Just a thought, but if you help other countries to become self sufficient and even out the disparities, then there should be less need for mass migration like we have been seeing and less tension as a result hopefully leading to less conflict.

That is the paradox. More recently the migration from Eastern Europe has slowed and given the level of EU and government aid probably was always going to. What I see as the problem is that state aid to create jobs there isn't a zero sum game. In an age of globalisation, big business is going to move jobs to where wages are lower and state aid and grants are available. The three examples I quoted were cases where such a system worked against jobs in the uk. The soft loan to ford in Turkey, I think anyway, beggars belief.

It isn't a guess, it is an opinion of that I've conceeded but I've based it on three things

    1. We were downgraded in the aid table in 2014.
    2. West yorkshire who areabroadly comparablec in many respects were downgraded still another notch below us in 2014
    3. As the aid is largely based on income per capita measured against an EU wide median, another round of absorbing poorer Balkan states, as is being considered, would move us further down the pecking order.
As I say it's my opinion but I have based it on something. You have a different opinion and I respect that

Wath is in receipt of £50m per year IIRC from the EU.

I don't dispute that scoff. Or that we did well in the past. What I am saying is that I believe we are on a downward trajectory for aid and the ongoing outlook is that aid given elsewhere is acting against jobs in the UK.
