It's interesting to compare Moncur and Mowatt. Rewind 18 months and they were in the same boat and at a similar status in the squad. One has got himself to a high level of fitness and has taken on what the coaching staff have asked of him and started to fulfill his potential with grit to add to the undoubted talent. One hasn't. You could've guessed 18 months ago which one was going to do which. I've never been a Moncur fan but I wonder whether part of his problem is that he simply lacks natural stamina and fitness. Even if that is an excuse he hasn't helped himself with occassions of showpony attitude and seeming disinterest in doing the less glamorous parts of the game. He's had his chance. Is a bit puzzling to loan him though and I'd have liked us to have got a fee from Luton. Here's hoping he doesn't improve them and we bring in a more effective replacement.
Think MacDonald had a really bad injury didn't he and is still out? But last season after joining hull had a few shockers and spent alot of time on the bench Adkins subbed him at half time in one game like hecky did to him at reading away. I thought he was okay next to Roberts but the 2nd season when captain was very poor.
He would have been good at this level. I think we have 3 good CB's at the moment. If Jackson doesn't sign I could see the sense of taking a reasonable fee for him. I think he would be better fighting for his place. Pinnock will be sold for good money.
Going to Luton will not go down well with most fans. Better if someone like Gillingham or Southend could get interested in him. Or maybe they are....
When Moncur came on against Burnley, Stendel put an arm round him and said something in his ear and George pissed himself- a proper belly laugh. It looked like for all the money in the world they got on and there were no issues. Must be a purely footballing reason. Good luck George, no grudge from me. I hope you smash the goals in against our rivals.
I think MacDonald would have struggled under Stendel. After all you can't do much pressing if you've no iron.
By most accounts Moncur was coveted for Luton by their former manager. Before he left. The bloke who's shot off higher up the greasy pole. After a recent stellar managerial spell with Luton. If this be the case, then perhaps he just might see something that only the myopic on this site can see. Not very bloody likely though, is it?
He’s probably seen some of the flashes of talent that he undoubtedly has and missed the lack of application and focus we’ve seen for the last 2.5 years.
Guarantee he’s the sort of player that will play out his skin when he goes somewhere else and everyone will cry that we’ve made a mistake
I can respect that view even if I don’t agree with it. My point though was it is a foolish transfer policy that ‘sells’ players to rivals.
Yep - that's what gets you a better managerial job - you just watch the busy feet and the odd goal going in on video, and don't bother to ask about the 3 seasons worth of half game displays prancing around as unconditioned midfield meat (when selected).
I had a chat to Angus McDonald at the Fox Outlet last Sunday morning. I asked him how he was getting on and life in Hull etc. Unfortunately it wasn’t him. But it looked a lot like him.
Neither success nor disaster. I do not agree with your "stealing a wage" submission. Nor would I suggest Moncur gives 90 minutes worth of value for money. My objection is to his vilification simply by virtue of his departure.
I still reckon we'd have stayed up if the lazy fecker had deigned to move half an inch and swing his leg to clear the ball instead of letting Scowen in to score at QPR. Not to mention the two sitters he later blazed into Nelson Mandela Way or whatever it is behind the away stand. Talented? If running head down with no vision into dead ends or delaying attacks by going round in circles is talented, then yes. If not being able to take a free-kick, blaze umpteen clear shooting opportunities into row Z and have a three part repertoire of dreadful corners (too short, too long and far too floaty/near the keeper) is talented, then yes. If holding on to the ball and creating a worse situation for himself when an early easy ball to a team-mate was readily available, then yes. And those are supposedly his strong points! No point getting on to his tackling, fitness, heart and determination 'cos they're non-existent. He had one decent game against Peterborough, 20 minutes against Luton, a couple of runs against a demoralisedd Bradford and half a game at Blackburn and Villa but only 'cos Matty James was magnificent along side him. Plus 50 odd shockers. My abiding memory will be ten minutes in at Brentford when he gave it away in our half and then put his double teapot stance on then bent down to play with his socks as the Bees player went past him and he couldn't be arsed to even try to rectify his error. He's my favourite player...……...ever.
