I didn't read it like that. Seems clear to me that he never really settled here, which was alluded to in the statement, but I didn't see any digs.

I'm more than happy to take the risk. We're well capable of overtaking Luton with both Lee and Moncur in their line up.

Funnily enough early in the season I thought we were playing some of of niftiest football when Moncur and Potts were in the same team.
Strange how some things end up.

Let’s not be dicks. No need to insult him for anything other than his footballing ability/efforts.

This is what I was hoping for, Shame its another undisclosed fee mindst (we are all in it together an all that crap) and as for selling to Luton well cant see his sideways jinky runs producing much there either, may hev an initial purple patch but it`ll be nowt to shart hooem abart.

It was obvious that a lot of our fans have never taken to him and it
is apparent that the way he plays , really does not suit the high tempo
pressing game that Stendel and our coaches want the team to play.
He's not got the high energy levels required to play flat out for 90 minutes.
I'm only hoping we now get two players in very quickly to replace Potts
and Moncur, otherwise we run the risk of doing to Stendel what happened
to Heckingbottom viz: seriously hack him off so he gets the urge to move on.

Fair enough, out of order, but the point I’m making is wouldn’t it just be better to wish him well and send him on his way?

Not necessarily about the fee, more freeing up the salary to use on a player who can offer more on a more frequent basis and be a key player in our push for promotion.
Dont understand the bits about selling an inferior player to a rival.
    Why would we not?
lets bring someone in who can eclipse the contributions made previously by Moncur.
    Surely that is good business?

I liked George but he was never (ever) consistent for us. He was very good at coming on against tired legs and dribbling past them and he’d have 1 good game for every 6 or 7 mediocre games.

We’ve made some money out of him rather than lose him for free in the summer so I’m not sure why so many people are losing their minds over this.

As long as we get someone in to take his role in the squad (could it be this Jordan Green from Yeovil?) then I’m not overly fussed about him leaving.

Then people would be whinging on here about the club not being transparent about their reasons for selling.

Personally I would like to say best wishes and good luck to George for the future. While its clearly not worked out for him on the football pitch here at oakwell, what he and his wife did for the Naylor family(close friends of me and my family) during there daughter Aalish's final months was above and beyond, and even now after her sad passing they are still involved with the family.

I know this has no reflection on the football side of things and the clubs decision to sell, nor should it, but sometimes its better to just say thanks and good luck rather than aim insults at a outgoing player because he decided to go elsewhere.

We wish him the very best of luck in the rest of his career, he has been a great character to have at the club.

    You mean like that?

I’ve mixed feelings but I trust the club on this.

He wasn’t playing nor likely to, he had under six months left on his contract.

Do you refuse to sell for whatever the fee was and pay all his wage, or do you take the fee (say, for instance, £200k), and save on his wages and give them to a loan signing who will play?

It depends on who the players coming in are and whether you have confidence in your own team and manager to outscore Luton points wise for the rest of the season.

Risk? Maybe. But it might well strengthen us more than Luton depending on who’s coming in.

The owners aren’t going to throw their own cash at it, so there’s no point whinging for them to do so.

Trading is our modus operandi - and George Moncur was an unusual asset in that he was a saleable, desirable player yet one we will miss very little and who wasn’t in the side.

Selling to a top six rival might bite us on the arse but i think we are being overly cautious and pessimistic if we think George Moncur is going to cost us promotion by playing for one of the other sides.

Look after our own results, beat everybody who we should and we’ll be there or thereabouts. Luton won’t win every week just because of George. He’s talented but lacks application. It might click for him there but you can hardly see him tearing it up from week one. The new manager when he comes in might not even fancy him as a player.

Exactly that. Without the sideways jibes that accompanied it.

    Not jibes. Facts.

I feel this conversation is a circular one.

On his day the lad can play. But only in a team that’s built around him with grafters prepared to do all his defensive running and give him the ball to do as he pleases with.

Absolutely does not fit our current high pressing/quick countering style. Doesnt tackle, can’t track a man, doesn’t help out defensively. I’ve been frustrated with the amount of times, when given a chance that he’s lost the ball, dropped his head and ambled towards just inside our half before stopping and waiting for the game to come to him? Time well tell if he’s strengthened Luton, my guess is probably not.

I'm not fussed about him going. He's been here a long time now and hasn't managed to hold down a place.

Unless he gets super fit, I can't see him being any different at Luton, because he plays at a tempo he can't sustain.

At his best he's skilful with quick feet and an eye for goal, but it's not been often enough, and he's been better as sub than starter.

I wish him luck, and will keep an eye on his career post honeymoon period.
