Sorry, this thread has lost me. Where are the "snide digs" referenced by some? can't see anything except a bland official statement on the sale of a journeyman footballer who hasn't really figured much or really developed. Nor do I see it as an indication that nothing has changed regarding selling top players on the cheap to promotion rivals.
We offered him a deal on our terms. What we valued him at. He rejected that and has managed to get the terms he wanted at Luton. So we've sold him on our terms. Simples really.
Not necessarily. A contract on lower term could have been offered to allow the club to move the player on for a higher transfer fee. Once any player gets to the last 6 months on their contract, the clubs bargaining position is almost non existant(as I'm sure you know) and it's been known that clubs have re-signed players just to make money on them.* *not saying that is the reason a contract was offered, just making a point that there are different dimensions to all this.
I like luxury players and that’s what he was given we live in the days of the ‘high press’. Probably most skillful player we had, certainly most flair and, on his day, a match winner. No wonder Luton wanted him after the job he did on them at Oakwell. Reminds me of him doing the same against us for Colchester? On balance, sorry to see him go and aghast that we have flogged him to a promotion rival.
Carrying on with the previous under current ownership of selling to a current rival for what we want to achieve. Hope the switch doesn't give him a career boost like it did his mate Lee. Would hurt if to make a few hundred grand now it gets them the approx six million from promotion instead of us.
It's a three part genius move by BFC :- 1) Strengthens us by meaning a red shirt will no longer be wasted on the Merrie Monc; 2) Substantially weakens one of our top six rivals by having to change their hard-working style to accommodate this lethargic show pony; 3) Frees up £300k plus (fees and wages) to bring in someone half decent who can kick us on in an area of the team that needs it. If Carlsberg did transfers they do this one...…….Quite possibly GG's finest master stroke yet!
Disagree you can't hold a player to ransom. It's unethical and immoral. A player trying to engineer a move away and refusing to play, yes punish him and stick him in the reserves. A player who simply has decided that in the future he doesn't want to be treated like a slave and forced to signal new contract the no that player has done nothing wrong and there's nothing to punish
Remember interview with Elliot Lee when they both signed, said George and him always getting up to high jinx, together, they shared a flat and George kept getting done with parking tickets ,parking in permit spots, said George can barely read or write, may have been tongue in cheek, but lee and him hardly kicked a ball in anger in our first team,be interesting to see how Lutons team cope with them back together
don't understand why people are getting so stressed about it. he's been average at best for us. can't imagine him going to luton and setting the world on fire.
Funny post that. Obviously they have never seen the Stacey Dooley BBC documentary of her home town from a few years ago looking in to racism. It wasn't pretty with Muslims calling her a slut and EDL being racist and wanting a scrap around rundown streets in the centre. Worth the watch if it's still on catch up because they put all her 70 odd documentaries back up when she was on Strictly.
Ha Ha, the area around the Luton ground makes Barnsley look like the Cote d'Azur in comparison. It genuinely reminded me of Beirut in the 80s and the only things in the local shops were kebabs and lorry loads of knock-off cheap loo roll.
That’s what I found funny too. Generally most places have its own **** areas etc but for Luton it’s the whole blooming place. It’s the fact they think they have got one over on us. Can’t wait till they realise there’s a reason why we have sold him.
So you honestly think that a player would intentionally be rubbish in order to force a cut-price move?
