    And how old are they?
The question applies even if your children are adults.

I can't really comment regarding birthdays as my lad is only 10 months old but for Christmas we spent around 700 quid. Ridiculous I know...

Most of which was beneficial to us too but then we got other things like the ride on car, sensory lighting etc.

Many of my pals who've got children around 6 and 7 roughly spend around 800-1000 they were saying. Sounds the norm.

Ta. I was asking because some of the figures I've heard workmates mention is ridiculous and I wondered if it was normal.
One 'lad' I work with got £700 spent on him by his parents for his 23rd birthday which is on top of his £60 a month mobile contract his parents pay for and his car insurance they pay for.

    Good grief.

    I have three kids, 11, 7 and 4.

Nothing like that spent at birthdays. Maybe £60 on gifts and a party or a little more if they don’t want a party (in the case of the one who’s 12 this year he won’t).

Christmas a bit more, think maybe we spent just over a grand between the three of them -but that was a bit over extravagant maybe. We’re both earning ok at the mo though so we’re entitled to I guess

    That's nuts.

I have two kids we normally spend between 200 and 300 quid per kid. Not sure what there is out there that kids would want thats more than that!

Jesus Christ that's insane. I get 40 quid in a card at 26 years of age off my parents. However, a lad who I did my coaching badges with his parents bought him a brand new Audi Q5 for his 18th birthday. Nice way to blow 35k.

I 100% agree with you. He's quite a fussy baby and if you sit still he screams the house down so we bought things like a trike, ride on etc...

We're quite lucky to have two well paid jobs and we live comfortably, it makes our lives easier. Our lass went abit daft with it being his first Christmas and what not, but if it makes her happy then I'm all for it.

Really? Just off the top of my head, I can think of many things a young lad would want that are a lot more than that, just in the gaming market.

    PS4 Pro - £350
    Gaming PC - £700 to £1500
    HTC Vive Pro - £1300

Then there’s things like the big Lego sets that can cost anything up to £700

Surely it's dependent on how much you earn and what else you do. Like sobe spend on birthdays but donto gave a big holiday or extra curricular activities.

Can't believe what sone parents pay for phones that their kids just break the screens within days of getting them though.

My kids are 8 and 6. They don’t really ask for much. Probably 30 quid on birthdays and maybe 100 on Christmas. If they ask for anything within reason I get it for em but they don’t really ask.

Gaming stuff (we have 2 ps4s, a high end gaming pc and a VR headset) are family things, we all use them so they aren't bought as presents.

Lego - if you want to spend £700 on something that will cripple you in the dark then go for it ;-)

When I was a kid I always felt like I got a fair amount spent on me. My birthday is 2 days before Christmas though so I felt like they went the other way to prove that they didn't skimp on me because of it. Thinking back to the actual presents now, I reckon it was probably around £200 worth for each. Always one 'big' present and loads of little ones. It felt like I was hugely spoilt because all my friends were really poor so I definitely got a lot compared to them but never anything crazy expensive. Now, I probably get around £50/£60s worth I would say.
