https://www.readytogo.net/smb/threads/luton-sign-moncur-from-barnsley.1458873/ Some cracking comments on the Sunderland forum about Moncur, moneyball, Pearson etc. Dig in.
They're right though. Not that we are falling apart but that we are happy to sell the assets. To rivals. And are seemingly the only one doing it
Either he was an asset or our manager should be sacked for willingly naming a liability on the bench when better players were at the club
I wouldn't call a midfielder who's only played decent for 2 months since he joined 2 and half years ago a "asset" even when he came of bench he just didn't look interested. Good deal for us and Moncur imo
I find it amazing that I start a thread about another clubs perception of how things are at Oakwell, and our own fans choose to use it to be critical of us. We're absolutely flying at the moment and top of the current form league, yet some are still seeking to find fault.
Where am I pointing out a fault? Getting rid of Moncur was nothing but a positive, we're playing some sublime stuff and none of it has really involved him. So yeah, not finding fault.
Clearing out players that where not good enough for the championship last year and not good enough to get in the first team this year. Bringing players in good enough to get us up and to play championship football!
Luton and us to go up automatically as it looks at the moment but there will be sone twists and turns no doubt.
People don't mind slating him while he his here on our bench. Lazy, heart of a pea, not interested, had his chance ect but as soon as he gets sold he is a "asset" couldn't make it up.
We sold Brad potts too you know. Two players from the 18 man squad. 2 assets whether you rate them or not. If we sold them for money they were assets. Can't really say it much simpler than that. Sunderland fans claimed we were doing it, fitzytyke argues we haven't done it. Facts show we have.
I haven't argued we didn't do it. Pott's went to the championship, and Preston have made several offers for him prior to his sale. We have sold Potts, Bradshaw and Moncur. It's taken two clubs to break their transfer record to buy them, and it hasn't stopped our charge. My argument is that we don't sell our players to the first bidder as is suggested on that link. No mention of us buying Green, one of Yeovils assets?
Selling Moncur makes sense to me. Selling him to a rival for promotion, not so much. I don't particularly like Moncur, I've seen games where he didn't give his all and I find that difficult to forget. I've seen a number of others where he's been completely ineffective. I think we have better players. But life isn't black or white. He does have some assets. He's scored one league goal and got 4 assists this season. If Luton use Moncur as an impact sub I think he's capable of creating a few goals for them and winning a few points and that may be the difference between them being promoted and us. I wouldn't have sold Moncur to any other club in the top 7 of league 1. Those are our rivals for promotion. The couple of hundred grand we probably got for him, maybe not even that much, and the wages we have saved, is peanuts compared to the 5 million that promotion is worth.
Here you go ST. This is what they said. No mention of us signing Dougal there. That implies that all our players are being pushed out of the door. It's not true,
