Premier league standard. Top Premier league. His vision and technique were just superb. And he was everywhere. I struggle to remember a midfield player for Barnsley in my lifetime of watching who could pass that well Very very special. He hasn't quite got the physicality of Premier League players, even though he covered every blade of grass today, but he's just as good a footballer. He obviously lost his way for a while but he's looking a quality player right now.
I still think if we hadn't loaned him out to Oxford, worked with him on the training ground we wouldn't have got relegated.
He is a prime example of why a player shouldn't be written off after a poor start at the club. Many, myself included, would have sacked him off the first few months after he joined the club(I though we would have offered Oxford the chance to take over his contract, just to get him off the wage bill), but he's been a class above all but 1 or 2 midfielders I've seen play at the 'Well in my life time this season. Hopefully, it's not just a case of him "finding his level",as he seems to have fallen in love with the club and it would be great to see him lead us up the Championship next year!
Perhaps, we ought to have more trust and patience with some of our own. Having said that, our perilous position last season probably didn’t allow for that. Also, look at how McGeehan has blossomed, especially these last few games, as has Thiam , Brown, Williams and Cavaré. Long may it continue.
There isa lot of parallels between the way Mowatt's Reds career has gone so far and how Redfearn's started out. Both were brought in with a decent reputation and both started really slowly, with the fans taking a bit of a dislike to them to start with. Now, like Redders before him, he is going from strength to strength and become a fully fledged fans favourite. Here is hoping the rest of his time with us mirrors the Redders too...
When we signed him a Leeds fan at work described him in a similar way that many saw George Moncur. Bags of ability but with little energy,
Brilliant performance again from Mowatt, great passing as per the OP and also the way he skips round people in tight spaces in the middle of the midfield ruck, creating openings for himself and/or room for others is sublime. The difference for me is Stendel - he saw what Mowatt had when many of us doubted, got his confidence up and built the team round him. Mowatt loves playing for Stendel.
