https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-manchester-47145551 May be a relief to those of us who use trains for matches. This post is meant to be factual, and not to start a debate about strike action. #YouReds
The right outcome. It's been a pain to travel on weekends, but the strikes weren't for nothing. Just need better faster trains now....
Northern trains are, without exception, the worst that I use (regularly use CrossCountry, LNER and GWR as well as Northern). Most of the trains I catch from Wombwell are those I considered "inferior" when I caught the train to Sheffield in the early 90s.
https://www.northernrailway.co.uk/strike " Changing a strike timetable back to a normal timetable is a very complex task. It is unfortunately too late for Northern to reintroduce a full timetable in time for this Saturday (Feb 9). We will run about 700 services with few services running after 5pm. We advise customers to check before they travel. From Saturday Feb 16, we are pleased to confirm that we will be running a full Saturday timetable."
Excellent news - I've been having to leave after about 85 mins every week in order to catch the last train!
I think they'll be gutted as they were getting used having saturdays off. They'll have to find something else to strike over now. Carry on at their convenience. It isn't Mr Boggs in charge of Northern rail is it?
The trains are terrible. A few months ago I happened to drop on being on one of the new ones having a test run that are coming supposedly this year and I didn't like it. The annoying voice over telling you next stop, seats much lower for less privacy so you're staring at people and really think padding on the seat so they aren't as comfortable. It's not like they will be going any quicker.
I want signs putting up on the trains during the winter months saying blow it or swallow it ffs. Sick of hearing people sniffling.
We've had no guard on the District Line for around 25 years - and no problems regarding safety as far as I am aware.
I hate Northern Rail. I caught a train this morning, it was there as I arrived at the station so I jumped straight on. Of course there was no guard for me to buy a ticket from, and when I tried to buy one on the trainline app it wouldn't connect. When I arrived in Leeds I went straight to the ticket booth to buy a ticket. When the woman serving heard me say I had come from Garforth she gave the signal to a nearby jobsworth who swooped in and told me that I had to pay a penalty fare for not having a ticket as Garforth has a ticket office. I explained that I caught the train last minute, had made every attempt to buy a ticket and was actively trying to pay for one when he was instructed to collar me. I pointed out that I could easily have followed someone through the barriers or flashed yesterday's ticket to get through and it's nonsensical to penalise the people trying to be honest rather than policing the barriers to catch actual fare dodgers. He wasn't having any of it, but told me that if I appealed the penalty I would succeed. He then issued me with the penalty and told me to show the penalty notice at the barriers to be allowed through without a ticket. So if my appeal is going to be successful then I will have travelled for free and they would have been better off just letting me buy the fvcking ticket like I was trying to do.
