Barnsley simply faster, sharper, stronger and better. This could be 3 or 4 and probably will be. Sometimes just have to accept that the other team are much better. (from half-time) Outplayed. Simple as that. On the bright side, we've got Barnsley out of the way. good side and deserved to win. I know we won't play teams like Barnsley every week No point beating up our players today. Barnsley were smarter, quicker and stronger all over the pitch. Their number 12 was immense and gave Eaves and Hanlan nowhere to go. Still today will keep Holy at the top of the saves league. We were totally outmatched and outplayed.Barnsley could easily have had 6!! Holy 7.5 made some remarkable saves without which it might have been double figures. Unfortunately we came up against a very good side today. Big, strong and skilful - they all looked like bloody decathletes.
PS - Another very enjoyable performance from the lads, not often in my nearly 40 years watching us that 1-4 away from home has been flattering to the opposition so well done to all. Again, nobody on the pitch was sub-par:- Davies - Made a good save in the first half, not much else to do but did it competently Cavare - Defending has come on leaps and bounds. Great marauding charges forward, pity he gets all flustered and panics at the sight of the opposition penalty area , it'll come though. Pinillos - Again very solid defensively, overlaps well and if his delivery is not always great, he does work well with Thiam Pinnock - Had a couple of flustered moments in the first half and even lost his first header in two months but soon back to his imperious best thereafter Lindsay - Thought he was absolutely immense in the first half and held us together during the brief spell that they had a few minutes pressure. Great assist for the third, with Reds in well-worked and executed corner shocker. Brown - Glad I saw what he had in that cameo at Scunny 'cos he's making that right wing his own now. Tenacious and hungry without the ball, skilful and quick with it, great complement to Cavare and getting a tidy little goal and assist tally too. Mowatt - Just goes around the pitch with an air of quietly understated class, nips in and wins the ball, gets us rolling, plays the simple ball and gets us on the front foot. Nearly scored a cracker leading to the corner for the third goal. Well deserved ten minute break for our classy workhorse. McGeehan - Making the role of Mowatt's partner his own, can feel him growing as a leader and is vocal out there. A number of great interceptions and tackles to get us moving forward. Potential captain of the future? Thiam - At time he looks a cut above, undoubted class and skill now coming to the fore at this level. Continued progression on his final decision making and he could take the championship by storm next time. Moore and Woodrow - You can tell they like playing together and complement each other so well. Moore a colossus with great positioning, getting free in the box, going wide, harrying the back line constantly and working his proverbials off all the time. Woodrow, again great positioning, good at holding it up on the ground and a deadly conversion rate. Bahre - More classy close control, just needs to SHOOT some times! Dougall - Comforting that we have Kenny in reserve if anything amiss happens to Mo or Mc Green - Lively Stendel - Bravo, DS finally gets the 'Give us a wave' song sorted! Kit Man - Bravo - Well-impressed that we have two 'Lindsay - 6' shirts with us on an away trip. Crowd - Great turn out. Kieffer - Best wishes. All the above pales into insignificance for me if the big man is not okay.
