Our penalty - Bahre was absolutely cleaned out by their man. As always I look at incidents using the slow motion function and the Wycombe man went straight for the back of his legs and was nowhere near the ball. It was so unnecessary but as blatant a foul in the box as you are ever likely to see. With that ref though I was amazed we got it.

Our second goal - perfection on a plate! We are getting used to this standard of goal now but it's worth a few comments. Ryan Hedges had not been on the pitch long when he threaded a perfect ball inside the full back for Jacob Brown to run onto. Browny barely broke stride in gathering the ball and turning it perfectly into the path of the onrushing Cauley Woodrow. He is getting so good at this, from either side. Cauley could have been forgiven for checking his stride but he didn't - he just lashed it into the roof of the net with his right foot which, considering the ball came in from the left, was a rare bit of skill. Just watch it, again in slow motion - it's pure poetry. I will make one admission here though - at the time I was convinced it was Cam McGeehan who had scored. It all happened so fast :), and one or two others around me agreed.

The sending off - McGeehan was perhaps lucky not to get a red for a crunching tackle on their player but he walked away head bowed having accepted the yellow without question. Obviously a couple of Wycombe players were pleading with the ref for a red card and Cam must have heard something because he turned around and put his face into one of theirs (definitely no head butt - just a rubbing of noses). Their skipper then had a rush of blood to his head when he grabbed Cam's hair at the back and yanked his head backwards. I wouldn't call it especially violent, and there was no injury sustained, but he had to go. It was just a stupid incident, made even funnier when you watch it in slo-mo. How stupid some footballers are!

Their penalty - the ref got that one wrong. The worst that Ethan Pinnock did was to lean on their player a bit just outside the area. Whether this gentle shoulder to shoulder contact was enough to knock him over is debatable but a free kick outside the box was the worst that should have happened. Pinnock had his back to their player by the time the lad fell over so there was clearly no tripping involved.

By this time the ref had clearly lost it and I was wondering how much longer he was going to add on. It seemed as though he added time on to the added time because of the sending off incident but I don't think that is fair as it was their player who was prolonging it by refusing to accept the decision. The game should have ended at least two minutes before they scored and ruined our clean sheet. Despite all that though it was a very well won game and the result was never in doubt for me. I look forward to watching the whole match again, perhaps tomorrow.

Time added on isn't calculated based on who stopped play or who wants the game to end soonest.

I know it's not as simple as that but it's about time that the world of football adopted the independent time keeping system they use in Rugby Union. As soon as play is interrupted for whatever reason then the clock stops. It would stop time wasting at a stroke. That way we would all know that as soon as the clock reached 90 minutes that was the end of the game and it would then be up to the team in the lead to kick the ball into touch to prompt the final whistle.

I don't suppose it will ever happen but referees have enough on their plates without controlling the time keeping as well. We've got fourth officials now, technology is slowly creeping in, so why not have a timekeeper as well?

I did wonder why their player was sent off. I didnt read the match report and only watch the breif highlights on ifollow. As such only saw the McGeehan tackle which was absolutely terrible.

Did you think Cam had scored the second goal as well ? :D Amazing how the eyes can play tricks sometimes.

I was reading their forum, and one of their fans thought we should have had another penalty just after our first.

I can remember shouting for one but not what happened.

It was a hard, but reckless, challenge and he is going to see red before too long if he carries on like that. I love the fact that he shows aggression but he's getting noticed by referees and one of them is going to red card him before the season is out. If Kenny Dougall is on the pitch at the same time we run the risk of going down to nine.

Yes, I remember that as well but cannot recall the details. All will be revealed on the full match highlights.

Maybe the ref thought no - they're not having TWO penalties in one game. They are only entitled to two per season.

I seem to remember a handball in their area. I’m probably wrong though

Stop clock football on a 90 minute clock would last about two and a half hours. Whenever it's played that way, and it's been experimented with a lot, I've even played it, they do 25 minutes each way.

To be honest I wasn’t sure who’d scored it and asked around me, and to a man said Cam. Only when announcer named Woodrow. Were they put right. Lol.

On the playback he is some distance away from Woodrow but, at the time, I was sure it was Cam’s goal. Glad it wasn’t just me :)

There would be teething troubles no doubt but as soon as the players bought into the new regime it would work out better. Time wasting and feigning injuries are the two things that I hate most about football. We are relying on the man with the whistle to police it and they often get it wrong

Apart from their penalty, I thought the ref was pretty decent yesterday

If you do watch the full game again, just out of interest, time how long it takes from the ref blowing up for the Mcgeehan foul and him blowing again for the resultant free kick after all the hair pulling shenanigans. And add this to the time taken from blowing for their penalty and us kicking off after the goal (I realise when the penalty is actually taken the clock should be ticking down but this is literally a couple of seconds.)

I would imagine the extra three minutes are pretty much used up from just those two incidents.

I agree. If we're going to adopt some of the better aspects of the "Game they play in Heaven", can we also adopt the one where only the captain can speak to the referee, and then only politely? It may stop the ref having to spend all his time running backwards away from players while they prod him in the chest with their forefinger.

Nooooooo. Some of us (and you’re one of them) live a long way from Barnsley. We wouldn’t be home before midnight! A Union game is supposed to be 80 mins. It lasts for 3 hours!!!!
