We’ve paid people to keep quiet while their compadres have blown all sorts of stuff up and killed innocent people. No doubt members of our military have been murdered in the full knowledge of our intelligence service. Don’t worry it’s all happened before
He is right. Happens day in and day out in the various Mosques and countless unregulated Madrasa schools throughout the UK.
If a 15 year old girl had been lured abroad with the promises of a better life only to be abused by adults who had lied to her, would there be an argument about it? She was groomed, and as we know from various cases within the UK, vulnerable young girls make stupid decisions. That is not to say that she was not capable of recognizing the potential ramifications of her actions, but teenagers often say and do stupid things. Legally, there is nothing we (the UK) can do to stop her coming back. We cannot make her stateless and she is a British citizen. We can arrest her and interview her about her crimes, but what crimes has she actually committed in the UK? (Or in Syria for that matter?). The baby has a Dutch father, so could qualify for dual nationality (I don't know if The Netherlands allows that).
So it would be as easy to convince someone to travel thousands of miles unaccompanied and become a terrorist, as it would to convince them to send photographs on line? OK.
Maybe you are right and she was groomed ect but in her interviews no she has shown no remorse or regret for traveling thousands of miles to join a terrorist organisation. So I question her reasons for wanting to come back to England possibly because Isis are all but defeated, is she a security risk when she comes home? Yes Your probley right we can't stop a British citizen coming back but I'm pretty sure joining a terrorist organisation is a crime.
Unless she was plotting or attempted to kill the Queen, it isn't High Treason nowadays - although with the old definitions, being a Catholic Priest has counted as has shagged the Monarch or their descendants without being married to them. She should be arrested, detained, questioned, then if there is enough evidence, prosecuted. No argument there at all.
I think you may find that doesnt apply here - or all terrorism acts by UK nationals would be considered as such and they arent. I think now High treason is limited to acts against the Queen or Heir not acting against the UK as such
You are very lucky - I wish I knew nothing about her - As the saying goes if you cant say anything nice about someone ... so I have nothing else to add
One of the things I'm really pleased about is that despite the furore when Brad Potts left, we've not really missed him. In fact, the other lads have stepped up and raised their games to replace him. Especially young Browny, well done lad. You got your chance and you've taken it.
Giving aid and comfort to the enemy is still High Treason as far as I can see from current legislation.
