........... we are just not clicking in the final third. And again the defence kept us in the game. Usually we get a break in attack or score a spectacular goal from distance - unfortunately it didn’t happen this time. But usually it’s the LAST pass or cross going astray - and it was exactly the same against Burton. Even corners were easily dealt with by Burton. It’s very frustrating to watch. Bähre had a bad game ...... and it was easy to see that he knew it. He’s a player that has talent - but very much runs hot then cold. Stendel got the tactics wrong against a well disciplined Burton side - and as such most of our players played poorly. But all the back four had a great game - Dimi in particular stood out. The absence of Moore was a factor. We missed the chance to go for the battering ram approach. On the plus side - Moore will be back soon. And importantly we will come up against teams that will need to win, such as Portsmouth. When we do, those teams will leave gaps at the back - and Barnsley have players to exploit that.
I wouldn't analyse too much. It was a crap game all round. I thought Mowatt had one of his worst games. Very disjointed performance. We had our moments. Nothing more. Had we taken our chances we could have still won 3-0. We move on.
You often hear it said about "It was the LAST ball that let us down". But isn't the pass/cross that goes astray always the last ball? I don't get it. And when you don't score yourself it's equally obvious that the defence must have kept you in the game! Not being confrontational Mr Nudger but I think these statements are a bit obvious, really! I've only been to one game this season and have seen two now in their entirety online. For what it's worth, my opinion is that the team played quite well without necessarily hitting the heights of recent games, and would, with a modicum of luck have been comfortable two-goal winners. The shot in the first half by Woodrow would often have beaten the keeper and the layoff in front of goal (I forget the players involved) really should have given our lad a cast-iron opportunity. On the other hand, Burton had a couple of dangerous-looking breaks which they ought to have made more of. Nigel Clough is a very wily operator, and the three points lost in this fixture last season were enough to see us relegated. This time we gave ourselves a chance to win but were certainly good value for the draw, and our unbeaten home record stays intact. It's an obvious temptation to say that Keiffer Moore would have made all the difference, but I don't think we'd have played a gung-ho long ball game to accommodate him. Our accurate passing football, so far as I can see has been the thing that has brought us success. So disappointing not to get the three points, but far from a disaster and plenty of encouragement for us when we come up against sides who may not be quite so organised as Burton, in my view!
It was disappointing. We found it difficult to break them down. Although we played with two wingers in Brown and Hedges, we were still too narrow. When the ball was out wide the opposite winger was drifting inside and Woodrow was coming out wide towards the ball. This is OK if the full/wing back exploits the space on the opposite wing. We didn't and we had no joy trying to play through the middle. In fact that's just what Burton wanted us to do. But it's a lesson we've learned, because more teams are going to do the same as Burton in the run in to the end of the season.
‘The defence kept us in the game’ You make it sound like we were under the cosh for long periods, which certainly wasn’t the case yesterday. There was too much reliance on our 2 CB’s in bringing the ball out, but Burton didn’t pose no more of an attacking threat than Wycombe did. They did win the midfield though which was disappointing for us and very effective for them. If one of our early chances had gone in, we would’ve seen a completely different game, with Burton opening up and leaving gaps to exploit. These types of games seem to come along every season choose which league we’re in, so other than being disappointed with our performance and dropping 2 points, I think we’ll move on from this and I’m confident of 3 points on Saturday.
Not all of these teams will be as disciplined as Cloughies Burton yesterday. They were very resilient if nothing else. As I posted earlier it could’ve so different had we scored one of those earlier chances.
They are not wind ups. But if they were - they do seem to keep winding you up. Therefore they can’t be that $hit.
When will some fans realise these teams aren't just going to roll over. They want to win as much as us.
I agree with some of that but the defence played well they definitely did not keep us in the game Burton tried a little to attack 1st half but never looked like scoring before half time we were turning the screw brown should of scored when he got on the end of a cross from close range, Woodrow brought a great save from their keeper, bahre should have played mowatt in on his left but he over hit the pass. At half time they got everyone behind the ball in the 2nd half we had no answer to unlocking this Burton got what they came for
Same old story ? Of course it is because we've drawn every game nil nil haven't we. Nudge have a day off
