Regardless of your age, you need ID in pubs. It's to do with barred customers, not proof of age. I know some our resident fans have already mentioned this, but a few have had problems this evening. So, if you're planning on getting a drink, take photo ID! Safe journey to all travelling, bring back the points! COYR! Sadly I can't make this one, I'm playing in the FA Peoples Cup.
But why would being 70 mean you shouldn't have to let them know who you are anymore than someone who is 30 should?
Weird... as pointed out, it's not about age, it's to enforce a barring system they have in place down there. That said, I'm sure there is a subsection of society that would pay good money to kiss a 70 year old bottom.
Well I will answer even though it’s 12.30 am over here and I’m ready for some shuteye. The general concenus that a doorman is on the door is to see that you are not drunk, and that you are old enough to enter the establishment. If a doorman is not competent enough to do that without treating a pensioner like a juvenile then he should not be holding a license.
Stupid idea by local pubs and must cost them money. I can see it now one of our middle aged fans trying to get in a venue without photo ID just incase despite the Yorkshire accent and how old he looks, he might be one of the local young lads who have been banned. Common sense is lacking really.
Rules is rules though. Can't start spitting the dummy out just cos the rules don't fit your agenda. Maybe Portsmouth has a large contingent of belligerent Yorkshire ex-pats of pensionable age? You just don't know...
I’ve just had an afternoon / evening session down here, I’m late 30s and not had to show any ID in any pubs and visited half a dozen so maybe this is just a Saturday thing?
It’s not - it depends on where you go. Some pubs are militant on it and others aren’t bothered at all. Places like Gunwharf and Guildhall are all over it in the main. Others are more reasonable and only ID when age comes into it. It’s pot luck if you don’t know the area!
Don’t see the problem with this, personally. Don’t know why people have to get overly offended by it. If that’s the rule, that’s the rule. Everyone should carry photo ID anyway in this day and age.
