Labour just confirmed Remain would be on the ballot.

Next week a Romanian will be president of the EU. Bye bye Jean Claude Juncker .
There will be Elections to the EU this May - if we're still (hopefully not!) in the EU we will be electing MEP's

In the unlikely event of such a ballot being voted through

Political pundits are saying that they have bowed to pressure as a result of the ripple effect caused by the Labour MP's who defected last week. Watched Tom Watson on the Andrew Marr Show on Sunday and his opinions seem to conflict with those held by Jeremy Corbyn. As a Labour supporter, it gives me no pleasure to see that the party appears to be in dissaray.
The current Government is the worst in living memory, but I notice that they now hold a lead in the latest Opinion polls. If Labour had got its act together, they should have been way ahead, but sadly that's not the case.

If the cooper amendment failed ( an extension to avoid a no deal scenario ) how the hell are they going to get a second referendum through parliament ? Sounds like wishful thinking to me despite Corbyn s backing . It's a very partisan issue and I don't see MPs changing their minds any time soon .

I think there could just be a majority for it, especially as May has played such a dangerous game and pushed many loyalists to the fringes who could well vote for such a way out. Even if people voted to leave on the same basis or larger numbers, can have no complaints as they know precisely the damage they are going to do.

However, what is likely to happen if they can get a referendum passed? Who structures it, given the government don't want a 2nd referendum? How are Labour going to shape it, given the party want to leave the EU (though not members) and many Labour MP's have been constantly saying they are against a 2nd referendum. I'm kind of 15% relieved, 85% astonished. It doesn't make much sense at all to me and the more I think about it, the more it seems like a desperate attempt to stop pro remain MPs from leaving to the Indy Group.

Nope that still doesnt say what leave means - does it mean leave with no deal , leave with Mays deal, leave with Corbyns proposed deal and if we are going to cherry pick quotes

It's going to need some of Teresa Mays government (150 or so MPs ) to flip their vote which will rip the party apart . The Tories or the DUP will not fall for it . It will be nothing more than a vote of party loyalty in the end . The only good to come out of such a vote is that it will put the 2nd ref argument to bed once and for all .

Which is precisely why Corbyn has agreed to it - my initial faint hopes already gone - I still expect may to lead us off the cliff on March 29 and totally trash the country - I think thats what corbyn hopes as well so when the economy tanks people lose their well paid jobs and all that are left are the low paid jobs that previously were done by eastern europeans they will come flocking to labour and he will be there to get the rebound

Very dangerous strategy and I dont think it will work well for anyone

It depends how many Labour rebels go against the 2nd ref vote. Some how I don't think they'll face deselection threats, so it may be a fairly soft encouragement. It could well come down to if the more centrist tories and even people in the cabinet, think they have to stop May from the most dangerous approach she's adopted.

I thin this whole pantomime has taught us that the norm isn't the norm at all and allegiances and actions shift by the day. Will be interested to see what happens if Keir Starmer thinks he's been thrown under the bus by Corbyn if he doesn't campaign hard for a referendum.

I'm a remainer . The people did decide, like it or not the people did decide . 'I don't like the first result, let's have another and another'. If that's democracy our future as voters is irrelevant.

But what did they decide - thats the fundamental problem - surely now there is a read deal to decide on how is it undemocratic to say - right after you advised us you wanted to leave - this is the best deal we can get should we go ahead, just leave with no deal, or do you want to rethink now things are clearer and remain.

The ballot paper didn’t mention any deal. Simply to Remain a member or Leave the European Union.

I know - and thats the fundamental problem it didnt define what the future relationship with the EU would be and lots of different people had different expectations There were many statements made by vote leave which do not fit where we are now
leaving aside the fact that the vote was illegally influenced
