If you bothered to read all the posts, they've been advised what to do by the SYP Liaison Officer who was at the game.

The FA have Ground Regulations for everyone's safety. Regulation 13 states "Nobody may stand in any seating area whilst play is in progress. Persistent standing in seated areas whilst play is in progress is strictly forbidden and may result in ejection from the Ground." I agree the stewards were OTT but they were enforcing the Ground Regs. On another note, I believe (but I may be wrong) that when away fans damage things i.e. break seats or smash toilets the repair bill is sent to the football club of the fans that cause the damage. If this is true the muppets that do this must cost Barnsley FC thousands of pounds every season!!

Good luck enforcing those regs when the likes of Leeds and Man U play. Everyone is stood up.

I know... he still looks chuffed though.

Maybe people react differently than I would if my disabled son got twatted at a match? I dunno... Certainly wouldn't be posing for selfies, but what do I know...

Saw it on twitter, must be true.

His sons got a black eye, he's not dead. Did you want him dressed in black for the journey home?

Really? To be honest I don’t even know what SIA is but I see a lot of young lads & lasses stewarding who barely look out of school & certainly don’t look like bouncers

Ok, put yourself in the position of a bloke who's just watched his disabled son get a black eye and a mouthful of discriminatory abuse from a £7 an hour steward.

Would you really be taking beaming smile selfies with the Mrs?!

    Absolute dogshit.

Some right rubbish being spouted in this thread. Chinese whispers in full motion.

I’m actually on one of those videos stood up watching everything take shape. The stewards handled it very, very badly. But the first punches as I could see came from Barnsley fans. The aggression came from Barnsley fans. The refusal to follow orders came from Barnsley fans. One steward got hit around 10/11 times in a row once he’d been separated from the others. One old boy was stood next to me at one point and then the next minute he’s four rows back and launches punches at a steward. Before having his glasses pushed off his head.

As I’ve admitted, the stewards got this badly wrong in terms of crowd management, but our fans were on one and didn’t do themselves any favours.

For some bizarre reason, which I still can’t work out, one of the lads who was a bit of a ring leader with all the trouble moved closer to the pitch before the second half kicked off and was even trying to talk to the stewards. Then decided to get on the pitch as we scored. Surprisingly then hauled out.

I, for one am shocked by the allegation you are making against the angels that go to watch Barnsley.

Partisanship will always cause incidents like this in my opinion. I like to read the **** show that is Owlstalk and they are worse, whole threads dedicated to the good old days where the brave Wednesday hoolies stood up to the evil opposition fans beating them back every time. But you’ll see this kind of thing on any football forum, trouble kicks off and “our fans are innocent it was all them”. If you want to be a good fan of your club you should back your team on the pitch, praise them and the fans when they show your club in a good light and be prepared to stand up and say no this is not right if somebody associated with our club does wrong.

Maybe I’m just in a minority here but as a Barnsley fan I always try to represent my club in the best light possible so that people who interact with me on matchdays or wherever think that we are a decent club with a decent fan base. I don't for the life of me understand why somebody who supposedly loves his club wants other people to think our club is fulll of absolute scumbags. It’s just something I wanted to throw into this whole thing and I hope I’m not alone but maybe I am I dunno.

Nail on head. I think the majority of fans will agree with you and behave in precisely the same manner as you do. Sadly football clubs, including ours, have a minority of supporters who behave in an appalling way at football and who, empowered by the pack mentality, think that fighting and challenging authority is part of the match day experience.
