Rather embarassing **** up in the Carlisle Notts County game last night - Just imagine if this was Davies

The question is is this borderine cheating or just clever play and taking advantage of a keeper not paying attention.

Personally I see nothing wrong with it - but there are quite a few in the twitter thread who think its at best unsporting. ( as if keepers taking forever to clear there lines is not unsporting)

Obviously the keeper has made an almighty hash of that, but surely one of his teammates must have noticed.

If the keeper is shaping to kick the ball, one out of the other ten must be looking at him. Surely someone has to shout something.

It's not sportsmanlike but it's not cheating.

I'd piss myself if we scored that goal. If we conceded it I'd be angry with the keeper, not the opposition.

It's not cheating. It's hard to believe that neither the keeper or one of the defenders weren't tuned in to this. The defenders should have been looking straight at the goal ffs.

Haha that's funny. Keeper has to check his area first- he'll never do it again that's for sure. It's a little cheeky but wouldn't go as far as saying it's unsporting.

Its not cheating, nor is it unsportsmanlike.

The Keeper has just made a giant **** up. Plus he was time wasting to **** anyway.

The unsporting behaviour is wasting time, well done to the lad I up front. Bet he couldn't believe his luck

Unsporting, but you can argue that the keeper was being unsporting( or even blatantly cheating) by the length of time he was taking to release the ball. Well over the 6s they're supposed to have. The funny thing is if the ref had done his job properly and penalised the goalkeeper for holding on too long then the guy wouldn't have been able to score.

Is the reason why these days and for many years you'll always see the goalie look behind him both left and right. Basic goalie training.

This keeper was blinded by his desire to waste time so forgot the basics. And received an immediate punishment...

Andy Marriott did the same in his first game for Birmingham after leaving us. Against Spurs.

The striker doesn't leave the field of play, so nothing wrong with it that I can see. Wouldn't even call it unsporting. Keeper was just dozy

Nothing at all wrong with that. The keeper was stupid and the ten outfield players were silly for not telling him. A very clever goal which should be praised for the know how of the player. One of the best I have seen since this.....

That would be disallowed these days I am sure - I think once the keeper has contol of the ball you cant play it until he releases it - the time between letting the ball go and volleying it still counts as control - but putting it on the floor to kick is clearly a release

Keeper had hold off that for a lot more than 6 seconds so indirect free kick, but then we would need refs to do their jobs correctly for that to happen.

When did anyone last see an indirect free kick (rather than a penalty) in the box?
