Women playing "men's sport"

Women's football is absolutley diabolical. I feel embarrassed for them, it really is a terrible standard.

 

Worthless? Ok, so is yours! Is that ok with you? Don't want any elitism around here do we.....

 

Sky have also introduced female pundits and, in general, they’re far more insightful than most or their male counterparts. If it started out as tokenism then it’s very quickly become much more than that.

 

If you don't like it then don't watch it.

How many woman and girls.go to watch Barnsley at Oakwell these days? A high percentage i would imagine .

I can’t even frame a reply right now. Feel a bit **** that I sit next to and speak to you most matches now knowing that those are your views but never mind. I don’t care that you think it’s crap and don’t like to watch it but you not even liking ‘the idea of women playing men’s sports’ it’s on another level. I absolutely love football, hell, I have a season ticket for my home town which is an hour’s drive away from where I live and I attend every match alone I love it that much. I was a pretty good goalie (only position my (male) mates would let me play) but I was forbidden from attending any football camps with school as they were for boys only. Things are finally changing just as I have aged out. Such is life. You have no idea how much I would have loved to have been allowed to play but people such as you didn’t let me because they didn’t ‘like the idea of it’.

Would you look at that, I did manage to frame a reply. I almost didn’t post this because of awkwardness that may now ensue but you didn’t care about that knowing I post on this board and would read it so now you know my views too.

 

Oh dear - there was never any intention to offend you, or anyone else, by posting what I did. I think that, despite the literary abilities that I've developed over the years, I sometimes come out with the wrong word, or phrase, and my meaning goes by the wayside.

If I say I don't like the idea of something, ie women playing football or rugby etc, it's not that I would want to stop anyone doing it, or enjoying watching it. How could I? It's not something that happened in my school days but I can see that the crossover of men and women between different sports is now very popular (with both sexes), and I am perfectly fine with that. I love my visits to Headingley but I would never go to see women playing cricket there, or rugby league. That's my personal choice, nothing more, nothing less. If you choose to be offended by it then you've misunderstood my words. Nothing I can do about that.

This is my last word on the subject. I should not have bothered - I can see that now.

 

I think the best female sports are pot washing, cooking and generalised moaning!!!

This post makes it clearer and I see nothing wrong with you having no interest in it of course. Not liking watching and not liking the idea of women being able to play at all are very different things though. Admitting you used the wrong word or phrase and then blaming me for it is also mildly annoying.

 

Clearly Cheltenham passed you by last week. And that wasn't even women v women!

Female golfers swings are a thing of real beauty. Not as far distance obviously but way more rhythmical and accurate.

I think that's where the problem lies - historically its been hockey and netball for girls and football/rugby/cricket for the lads. the schools determined which sports were for which sexes, I think now that more girls are showing more interest in cricket/football and rugby things will continue to get better for female participation.

It will be interesting to see though how the likes of hockey and netball fair going forward as the challenge will be for schools to be able to offer a full range of sports to the girls- they may struggle to offer such a wide curriculum of sports. Hopefully they can as the secondary schools seems to be getting bigger so perhaps should be able to run more sports teams?

I think girls should be able to play whatever sport they want - I have a 6 year old girl and cant see an issue - if she wanted to play football/rugby/cricket/netball/hockey - I would hope she got the chance to try her hand at any of them.

 

Aren't there at least two points to make on this?
A. Should women be 'allowed' to play any sport they wish?
B. Are women's versions of sports like footy or cricket worth watching?

Surely, A is of course unless you're a sexist idiot. B depends very much on one's view of what constitutes an entertaining spectacle. Lots of people seem to enjoy women's football and really get into it as they find it great to watch...Others don't.
Have I missed anything?

Chauvinism isn't dead.

 

This weekend I visited my niece in Belgium and yesterday watched her 12 year old daughter playing football, the only girl in an under 13 boys team. She played full back and you would not be able to differentiate between her and the boys in the team. She would give you a good argument about women participating in "mens" sports.

Here is a clip about the first woman to enter and run in the Boston marathon. The organisers of that race certainly had strong views about her participation and physically tried to drag her off the course as you will see.



She changed minds though and soon women were able to compete officially in the race.

 

What an odious *****!! I would love you to tell Katie Taylor or Ronda rousy that they are worthless in the sport they are involved in or one of the Williams sister while they put you on your fat arse!! All while making millions while you sit

I feel like women should be offered the same opportunities as men to take up any sport, but the difficulty is when it comes to pay. We're a capitalist society and any commodity is only worth what people will pay. Mens' sport has an increased speed and intensity which is undeniable - it's due to biological differences. Therefore it will be regarded as more exciting and attract much greater advertising revenue. How the **** you deal with this in a fair, equitable and non-sexist way I don't know to be honest.
