Genuinely interested. They tend to get a huge post count but I don't think I've ever seen anyone change their mind, so cannot understand why it is seen as worthwhile? This isn't intended to create a political debate, more interested in why you post despite the above
I can understand that and used to get involved in them previously but as the current one is showing, things tend to get heated and you just end up getting wound up.
I used to engage with people in the political posts on here but not so much these days. There are some who you can discuss politics with but sadly there are some who are so entrenched in their views that they won't even discuss a different opinion in a balanced way, even if they don't agree.
I agree with Mario. There are too many obdurate types with entrenched views and this precludes any reasoned debate. Some people don't want to admit to changing their minds as its often seen as a sign of weakness.
It's not the inability to change somebody's mind that makes political debate impossible, it's the inability to discuss rationally and respect a different opinion that makes it impossible. It's not just on here but on social media in general. People who don't know the difference between controlled immigration and racism, those who consider anyone who doesn't agree with them to be a Nazi or a bigot, those who call people thick if they dare to vote in a different way without having any inclination as to why they voted in the way they did, those who post the same meaningless political cliches without knowing much about the substance of what they're posting about, virtue signalling... I could go on.
I read them and the reasoned responses from people I don’t agree with. I have change my view on several things over time for a combination of reasons some partly due to what I read on here Fox Hunting for example. If we are referring to Brexit though which I have researched fairly hard no one saying we won you lost is going to convince me of very much.
Mario, your opinions are always to the right of centre and never alter. And before you come back at me yes I ham a socialist and proud to say it . After years of being kicked from pillow to post by the Tory party losing 2 jobs " coal miner, council worker" because of there policy and years of austerity I hate the party.
Ha ha, and the anti- left sheep- following anti- Corbyn posts are what exactly? This thread up to now is strongly hinting that it’s all anti-Tory when truth is there is plenty of anti- Labour stuff on here. Mario has liked a post stating it’s all Tory bashing yet gets on about reasoned debate. Yawn.
Even entrenched views are valid , most making that remark are frustrated because their views aren’t altering others . Tbh I don’t try to alter anyone’s views I respect their views but challenge them not ever thinking they are going to change because I’ve chsllrnged them . I admit that I can’t always find the right way to put over my views and some on here are very eloquent at putting over their points . I’ve taken things out of context in my interpretation just as I’ve been taken out of context myself . But at the end of the day I’ve debated with one person in a political thread then liked and agreed with their posts on the super reds That’s something I’ll never stop doing because at the end of the day no ones gonna change the world by putting their views on here . But we’re all Super Reds aren’t we?
A lot of things are pointless, but we still do them sometimes. Many of my mates share my political views, but my brother & my best mate are both Tories & whilst they are wrong, I respect their delusional state & they are still my favourite two people, other than Rex & Jess (cavapoo / cockerpoo), who frankly Mr Shankly have the whole political thing wrapped up, (as a giant turd in a scented bag).
You didn't read my post properly or you have missed the point I was making. I don't have a problem with anyone having a political point of view, whether that be from the right or the left. If everyone had the same opinion life would be pretty dull.
I liked the post because there is a lot of anti Tory posting on here. I have slated them when I believe they deserve it, which is frequently at the moment but find the criticism is quite unbalanced at times. As things stand I think both main political parties are a complete mess so there is your balance - I won't blindly support any party.
I've been voting since the 80's and have voted Tory once so again your theory doesn't stand up to critique. And just for information I am from a town near Harrogate - a Tory stronghold, so have never just voted for the candidate that every one else in the local area votes for. Balanced political opinion.
There is another problem as well though in Barnsley (or Farnham) it doesn’t really matter what you think Labour will win in Barnsley and Jeremy *unt will win for the Tories here. I may as well not vote In fact I have only ever voted in elections in constituencies with a huge Tory or Labour built in majority. It’s a bit frustrating
