er talking if birds Mr B - maybe you can help here. All through the winter I fed the birds in my garden - 4 bird feeders - needed re-filling weekly. Have seen differing reports on whether or not birds should be fed in the summer. What is your opinion?

thanks OG - what surprised me is the rapidity with which the feeders are emptied - much faster now than in the winter when here was little food about for the birds. There's quite a science to this bird feeding with many different types of feeders some designed for birds with long beaks others for larger bird and there's a large array of different bird foods to be had. (spent a fascinating week observing two magpies assemble a nest in the bottom of the garden)
My experience is that 'fat balls' are only suitable for birds with long beaks and if 'fat balls' hang too low or too long in warm weather they go rancid...…..!
TOO true Red Taff, knowt worse than likkin a rancid ball and having a face like a bulldog likkin piss off a nettle
squirrels! Feckin tree rats! Spend half an hour filling all the feeders and they empty them in the same time. Ingenious little ******** they are too, every type of squirrel proof device has merely increased my costs whilst they literally scoff at my pathetic attempts to divert them. I am currently looking in gun laws to see what I can get away with, the missus aint impressed, "Awwww, but they're cute".
