I've got a Rolex Oyster that I bought in the 80's off a watch collector on the beach in Benidorm; He also sold me my RayBans and a can of Lilt
Got a few Christopher Ward watches, all with ETA movements. Bargain once upon a time but their prices have gone north. Love imported Seikos (use Creation Watches) - models you just can’t get here. Got an OM Black Monster and a Neo Monster-Lite. Would love a Grand Seiko - they are just beautiful. Treated myself to an Omega Speedmaster moonwatch a few years back - award for 25 years service - which comes out for special occasions.[/QUOTE] If your 'Speedmaster' has the calibre 1045 movement ( which is really a Lemania 5100) you have a gem, and very collectable. Despite having some plastic parts it is one of the best mass produced automatic chronograph movements. Certainly the most robust. The best auto chron movement is the Zenith 'El Primero' which, until recently, is what Rolex put in their 'Daytona'. Rolex dumbed it down to 28,800 vph to increase service periods, but you can get it unadulterated form in other watches.
I bought a Seiko when I was posted out to RAF Gan in ‘75. I’d had it for about a month when it dropped off my wrist during a sub-aqua dive by the lagoon shelf near Gan channel I got it back 3 months later when a mate found it in the coral. It was still going.
I thought it was common knowledge, but I'll try and dig out a reference. I've had a few imported Seikos through down the years and there was always that choice between the J models or the (then) Korean made K alternatives at a slightly lower price.
I'd be grateful for that, thanks. I'm an active participator in many watch forums and discussions, and the general consensus is that J = Japan and K = Malaysia (or at least in the past 5 years).
I don’t wear a normal watch anymore since getting the Apple Watch.. my “nice” watch collection is just that...
This is going back a little further than that, so maybe production has finished in some places. Consensus used to be that K just denoted production 'outside' Japan, which included Korea, Malaysia and Singapore. I know when I bought my Black Monster and Baby Monster or 'Neo', Creation were offering J and K models, with a price differential, and clearly stating that they were Japan or Korean made. Think this was around 2011
My everyday watch strap broke yesterday and just dug out my vintage 6117-6400 Seiko world time watch. Forgot how nice it is.
