    11 players out of contract

4 loaness returning to their parent clubs

    A squad of aging journeymen.

    No saleable assets.

Don't own the ground or training ground.

Does not bode well for them.

    Reap what you sow.

Was just going to Google that was the one I could think of.
I think here sounds like the EFL are saying Bolton should not have called the game off and so should be punished but given it's a dead rubber and all that's going on lets not bother playing at all now.

The Middlesborough game was also a premier league fixture. Technicality I know but the precedent is in a different jurisdiction so the punishment doesn't have to be the same.

It's a bit of a Mexican stand off at the minute. There is two parties that can put the club into Admin, Ken Anderson or the Davies family(being the largest creditors). Neither want to do it though as they will be the ones that have to fund the club through the Admin period.

Most likelly thing to happen in my opinion is the court will rule they are to be liquidated, which takes 7 days or for a liquidator to be appointed(apparently). Someone will then swoop and buy the club and assets cheap in that 7 days...

If the club are liquidated, then won’t they have to move down the leagues and start afresh?

Bassini and his backers claimed if Bolton were to be hit by a points deduction for next season, they likely wouldn’t go ahead with the purchase.

Incorrect, if they are liquidated then they will be kicked out of the EFL and will have to reform starting in the lowest tier

Not beggars though are they. They’ll need to pump some right money into them. They’re obviously wanting to turn it around and then sell it on again. Another 12 point deduction next season prohibits that pretty much.

Nothing like as much as Bolton - and it was already under new responsible ownership at the time 20 points deduction because they had gone into Admin a second time and an additional 10 points for incorrectly reporting agents fees.

I'm not sure how it works. If a judge rules they are to be liquidated, are they classed as insolvent/liquidated from that very point, or are they still classed as trading until the actual liquidator is assigned(I'm led to believe this takes 7 days from the ruling)?

f it's the former, they will be expelled from the league immediately, and anyone purchasing the assets will be starting a fresh in the highest league where there is a space and who are willing to take them(probably one of the regional league). If it's the latter, then any perspective new owners will have the week to finalise the purchase, so will probably start in League 1 with a points deduction(if the EFL don't expel them for failure to fulfil their fixtures).

Personally, I think English football needs them to be liquidated and expelling from the EFL, to form as a bit of a wake up call. Teams running their businesses at huge losses are skewing the competitiveness of the league and punishes those trying to do things the right way.

Penalty is a 3 point deduction for Barnsley as they start with B same as Bolton so obviously connected

This situation has been a long time coming at Bolton- if the PFA have paid the players, who’s paying the rest of the staff! This Bessini seems a shyster - deduct points & I’m off? Hardly got the club in mind! It’s been going on all season - players refused a friendly cos no one was getting paid anything! Ultimately I think they’ll be better off staying clear of this cheat/ne’er-do-well (especially after a line of previous cheats) - iwhatever the outcome, they could get their club back (a la Blackpool) - if not, one less set of cheats!

How did Portsmouth avoid being liquidated? They must have gone pretty close. Didn't they go into administration twice in a very short space of time?

Agree with this. Feel sorry for the fans, but a stance needs to be made.

Just been having a quick read up, from what I can see, the court has to act in the best interests of the company's creditors. Logically, as Bolton have no assets, it is unlikely that the best course of action will be liquidation, so the primary aim will be for them to continue to trade if at all viable. I'm absolutely no expert in the field, so anybody else please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.
