Just asking if any of you stats folk can do any of the work i cant be bothered to do. But what is out w/d/l with Winkler and under Tonge as assisstant managers? It'd be interesting to know the impact it had, if any. Big fan of Winkler when he came here, hope he exceeds wherever he goes.
I believe Andreas left after the 4-1 away victory at AFC Wimbledon. [Disclaimer: maths is not my strong suit!] At that point our record was: Played: 27 GD +24 Points: 52 If you divide those figures by 27 games and multiply by 46, you get: Played: 46 GD +40.88 Points: 88.59 Our actual totals were: Played: 46 GD +41 Points: 91 Our consistency during these two periods compared to other clubs' results meant we improved our league position from 5th to 2nd. This suggests we have fared broadly similarly during both Andreas' and Dale's tenures as Assistant Head Coach. I think that would probably reflect the regard most fans have for our two AHC's this year.
Yes I can see maths is not your strong point. Read how you have calculated this a few times and I still don’t know what yer talking about. Over complicated. What’s GD ??? Goal difference??? It should be as simple as this. Points gained - divided by games played. Then compare the two sets of figures.
It makes total sense? It’s really clear to read and nicely summarises the consistency of the team in times of upheaval
Think both played a big part in our promotion . Dale stepped up and we kept the momentum going . Looks like we have a great management team
Err, well Mr Nudger…… Okay, if we separate Dale's period as AHC out, we get: Played: 19 GOAL DIFFERENCE [GD]: +17 Points: 39 But there were 27 games with Andreas, so to compare the two you would have to divide Dale's games by 19 and then multiply by 27. That gives us: Played: 19 GOAL DIFFERENCE [GD]: [+17 divided by 19 = 0.89; multiply by 27 =] +24 Points: [39 divided by 19 = 2.05; multiply by 27 =] 55 So had Dale had the same number of games as Andreas we would theoretically have gained 55 points as against 51 with Andreas. But there again we played Luton twice while Andreas was with us and not at all during Dale's tenure. And Woodrow was not available for much of Andreas' spell. So I prefer to think they had roughly similar records and they have both provided admirable support to Daniel.Hope that helps, Mr Nudger!
Early on in the season Andreas was very useful for his language skills, as demonstrated at press conferences, but this will have also been the case on the training ground. By January Daniel's English had improved markedly & this was less important, hence Dale being able to step in. The recent press report shows DS is happy with the current set up, so i think it can be said both have played their parts in the promotion of the club. Dale will have had a better knowledge of the youngsters, so that also may have played it's part with the introduction of many of those as the season has gone on.
Important to remember too that DS and AW had never worked together before coming to Barnsley. Although I’m sure DS was disappointed to see him this wasn’t a legendary partnership like Brian Clough / Peter Taylor or Keith Hill / Flicker that was being broken up
So we've done even better since Tonge has taken over and we haven't missed Winkler. Couldn't have asked for better and shows we didn't let upheaval distract us.
I think the stats posted earlier show we haven't done much different under both. We were always going to improve as the season went on to some extent with a young squad, but we did lose Potts & for a fair bit Moore too. I agree that not disrupting the camp with a new coach proved a good move.
Dale is well thought of by folk at the club, and the families of those who he coached during his time in the academy. It’s part of the reason he was given the opportunity to step up to AHC this season. He’s done a great job alongside Stendel, and I see no reason for it to not continue next season. I know Stendel was thinking possibly about a German replacement long term, but it looks as though he is happy with Dale. And in many ways, it’s made his English better as he’s been forced to speak it more. However, if Stendel wants to add another German colleague to his set up, then I see no issue. We’ve got to back him.
As long as DS stays, that is the most important thing. The big question mark is about the CEO position & future recruitment / new contracts in my opinion. How we do with this will determine our success next year. The coaching side looks sorted.
