Cheers, I have passed by them on the Coast to Coast. Weather is improving for next week - best of luck with the walk.
Update: 364 miles done, 162 to go. Camped last night on High Pike Hill on Mallerstang Edge in magnificent conditions, with great views across to the entire Lake District. The sunset was unbelievable, and the views this morning are stupendous. What beauty we have in Wild Yorkshire!
www.wildyorkshireway.co.uk update: Now in Malham, 416 miles done, 110 to go, getting close now! Hard 16.5 mile slog over Penyghent and Fountains Fell today, great pub (Lister Arms, Malham) as a reward! Flatland ahead, about 8/9 days to go!
Cafe 76 sells the best full English I have ever tasted in my whole life thus far. In my spare time, for 19 years, I was a Gold Award instructor in the City of Wakefields Duke of Edinburgh Award. Our kids used to do their Silver and Gold expeditions in and around , Skipton, Settle and the Forest of Bowland area. Our main daily task was to track the kids in our mini buses and pick up their messages we had pre-arranged for them to leave at strategic spots along their routes, but when we knew they were going to be in places we couldn't go with a bus and we therefore had a few hours to wait before they would next emerge, our gaffer used to drive all but one of us over to Skipton and treat us to a breakfast in Cafe 76. Three locally sourced sausages, two fried eggs, home made hash browns, black pudding, three full rashers of bacon, a generous portion of baked beans, fried bread ( optional) or a plate of bread and butter with either brown sauce or ketchup, plus a piping hot mug of tea or coffee. Last time I checked it out , the cost for that lot was £7.50. It might sound a bit pricey, but trust me, it's well worth it. All served in very nice, clean surroundings by very pleasant and cheerful staff, who genuinely appreciate your custom. Saw plenty of pubs, but because we were responsible for the safety and welfare of our young people and could be tracking them in a bus from 9am to 10pm, we were not allowed to drink any booze.
More acres of land in Gods own County, than there are words in the Bible. Same as the Scottish Highlands, some of the views in the Yorkshire Dales are absolutely stunning.
Update: Currently in the Dog and Partridge on the Woodhead Pass, another 2 day wild walk ahead tomorrow and Saturday, over Howden Edge (the highest point in Barnsley), Derwent and Stanage Edges, before ending up in Ringinglow on Saturday night. Then it's just 2 more days before beer, curry and bed. Thanks all for your support and donations!
What's the traffic like outside? The work going on must have been done by one bloke with a wheelbarrow and a shovel it's taking so long (for so little).
Update: I'm currently at the Norfolk Arms in Ringinglow, 501 miles done, just 25 to go, which I'm splitting between tomorrow and Monday. Members of the Woodhead Mountain Rescue Team (https://woodheadmrt.org) will be walking with me from the Waggon and Horses at Oxspring from 13:30 on Monday. If anyone fancies a walk on Monday, feel free to join in anywhere along the route from Oughtibridgeto Stainborough (https://www.wildyorkshireway.co.uk/mapdisplay.php?E=430668&N=393355). You never know, you may be on the telly.........
