Overview opinion on the how the season met your expectations and mark out of ten: Did a lot better than I expected. 9 Stars/ flops: Pinnock/Green (Nothing against the lad at all, I just expected more) Biggest surprise: Mowatt Best and worst away fans: Hate to say it, but Sunderland / Fleetwood were very disappointing with how many they brought, for being so relatively close. Best and worst away day: N/A (Didn't go away at all this year) Moment that made you smile: Stendel. Just everything he did.
Overview opinion on the how the season met your expectations and mark out of ten: Stars/ flops: Pinnock and Davies. 10/10 each. Flops is a hard one for the season we’ve just had. Biggest surprise: Alex Mowatt and Cam Mcgeehan and how well they’ve done since their first years here. Best and worst away fans: Best for me were Coventry, thought they were pretty noisy. Worst has to be fleetwood just for the numbers they brought. Best and worst away day: best away day for me was between Peterborough and Accrington. Worst is easy, Wycombe. Moment that made you smile: the Southend physio struggling to run the full length of pitch at oakwell.
Overview opinion on the how the season met your expectations and mark out of ten:9 (Had we won the title, it'd have been 10) Stars/ flops:They've all been stars for me, apart from Lloyd Isgrove Biggest surprise:Jacob Brown Best and worst away fans:Bradford City/Doncaster Rovers Best and worst away day:The win at Southend. After losing Brown in the first half, the second half was quite superb, especially with 10 men Moment that made you smile:Jordan Green chasing back and making a tackle on his debut. Daniel Stendel celebrated it like a goal. Oh, and when Kieffer Moore returned as a substitute & the reception he received from the fans.
Overview opinion on the how the season met your expectations and mark out of ten: 9/10, Fantastic season for us really only thing that could've topped it was winning the title obviously. Stars/ flops: Pinnock, Mowatt and Davies the main stand outs for me, no flops or disappointments really. Biggest surprise: Pinillos, showed himself to be a quality league one full back, was very good defensively and even better attacking. Could tell when we didn't have him in the team. Best and worst away fans: Doncaster for me. They were in and around top 6 when they visited and reckoned they had a good chance to beat us and fetched less then 2 thousand was it? Which to say we were their closest (or second) rivals was piss poor Best and worst away day: Quite a few good away days to choose from but i'll go with Walsall, we didn't play well at all and to get the winner in the 90th minute was unbelievable, especially the scenes after. Felt like we'd robbed 3 points and travelled home everybody buzzing. The worst away day was against Shrewsbury. It was an evening kick off on a Tuesday, dodgy parking and it was hours away. Also we played **** and Dougall got injured. Not good. Moment that made you smile: Greens first game for us, he's come on and chased back to get a tackle in about the half way line near Stendel. It was how Stendel walks toward green roaring and fist pumping in encouragement that made me smile the most. What a man. Either that or Moores reception he got upon returning to Oakwell.
Overview opinion on the how the season met your expectations and mark out of ten: 9/10. I've only deducted a mark because they tended to play poorly whenever I went to away games. Not sure whether that's my fault or theirs... Stars/ flops: Alex Mowatt/George Moncur. Both were the opposite of what I expected of them. Biggest surprise: Jacob Brown. Been a breath of fresh air, wonderful to see an attacking player come through the academy and get some important goals and assists. Best and worst away fans: can't really say as I only went to 5 home games. Coventry brought decent numbers and noise. Best and worst away day: Rochdale 4-0/Burton 1-3. Rochdale was perfect, warm summer evening, fish and chips and a pint with my dad before the game, large boisterous away following and a thumping win to boot. Burton I arrived late, felt like a sardine on the terrace, one small gents bathroom for 1800 away fans and we were gash. Moment that made you smile: Celebrating Brownys last minute winner with my dad at Walsall a few days after finding out he'd got incurable prostate cancer. Allowed us to forget for a minute and I don't know how many more moments like that I'll get with him at present.
Overview opinion on the how the season met your expectations and mark out of ten: 9.5/10, exceeded my expectations and would have been 10 with the title. Thoroughly entertaining from start to finish emanating from a passionate, attacking Head Coach who got the best from the players and established a great rapport with the fans. Stars/ flops: Pinnock, Mowatt and Moore were clearly the standout players in their positions in the division and were the brightest stars amongst a general Oakwell galaxy. Moncur and Isgrove flopped, the first as predicted and my season was made even better by his departure. Biggest surprise: Jacob Brown, made the transition to the first team well with goal and assist numbers to be proud of, and at key times too. Best and worst away fans: Bradford were good, Doncaster and Fleetwood the worst. Best and worst away day: Lots of good ones this season fortunately, some of those consummate performances, Rochdale, Southend with ten men, Plymouth were great but my favourite was Gillingham where the home fans afterwards were saying we were almost super-human! The nadir was definitely Wycombe, which was also a turning point. Moment that made you smile: Kieffer's re-appearance, Stendel's reactions on the side line and Chris Stern coming over to kiss me at Luton only to bypass my lips just as I'd puckered up before realising I was sat next to his missus! Oh and almost all of Whitey's Sunday night vids.
Overview opinion on the how the season met your expectations and mark out of ten: This has been a great season after the disappointment of last season. I have enjoyed every single moment from start to finish and coming away for the ground week in week out with a big smile on my face has been memorable. 10 put of 10 for me. Stars/ flops: The way the team have played this season it’s difficult to highlight any individual as on the whole they have all been great. No flops for me this time round! Biggest surprise: The way the team gelled so well and the fact that the replacements have done a great job when called upon has been the biggest surprise. Best and worst away fans: Best away fans have been the Burton fans and the worst were the Fleetwood fans: deluded. Best and worst away day: Didn’t get to a single away game so cannot comment! Moment that made you smile: Every single bit of passion shown by Daniel Stendel, lives and breathes the game.
Overview opinion on the how the season met your expectations and mark out of ten: 10/10. Entertained, a head coach and team that set up to win every game they play. I'd have taken top 6 before we kicked a ball and wouldn't have been surprised if we'd taken time to settle in the division. So all round its been one of our finest ever seasons for me. Stars/ flops: Pinnock. Has anyone flopped, can't say with all honesty that anyone has, hence a pretty settled side. Perhaps been a steep learning curve for one or two like Adeboyejo (but he never hides when it's not going his way). Biggest disappointment probably Isgrove. Biggest surprise: Jacob Brown, but many have stepped up this season. Best and worst away fans: Bradford fans were complimentary after we beat them 3-0 at our place. Worst, I'm going to say Portsmouth. Purely because a minority were causing bother under the Harborough Hills flyover before our game with them. I don't mean that to tarnish the reputation of their genuine supporters. Best and worst away day: Bradford, we looked every inch a promotion side in the second game. Worst away game, Wycombe. They weren't great, we were worse. A rarity. Shrewsbury away, they played pretty well (and dirty). Moment that made you smile: Receiving a text from my mother about 5 mins after we'd been promoted. She said my (late) father would be smiling, promoted just over a year after he passed away.
Overview opinion on the how the season met your expectations and mark out of ten: 10 - Thought we could win the title at the start of the season after getting the holding midfielder I felt we needed in Dougall but after losing Moore to the head injury & weakening the squad in January I thought we were headed for the play offs so the second half of the season & particularly the way we ground out the wins before the last day to seal promotion was superb Stars/ flops: Mowatt for me, at the centre of everything we did well, even when he didn’t have a great game his work rate was incredible & infectious to his team mates. Honourable mentions to Pinnock & Davies & probably several more of the first team could feature here. For flop I’d go Hedges, I didn’t trust Isgrove’s injury record so my real disappointment was Hedges who I felt could be one of the best players in the league at league one level but it just never really happened for him. He even got the right wing slot when Potts left but didn’t perform so he had the chances. Biggest surprise: Brown. Thought he was a limited, hard working forward who probably end up league 2 / conference standard. Never saw him been a quality right winger in a million years, delighted to be proved wrong. Mowatt pushes him close but he’d shown talent in spells at Leeds previously. Best and worst away fans: Honestly never really noticed them, Sunderland was maybe a bit of a disappointment but it was a Tuesday night, reckon they would’ve packed it out on a Saturday. Best and worst away day: Only been to 3 & loved them all. Accrington probably the best. Moment that made you smile: As someone else has mentioned the Southend physio was brilliant, Kieffers return, Daniel Stendel permanently looking like he’s on something, seeing the clips of the lads on the bus back from Bristol, Sedgy with the guitar, Mowatt rapping etc, Brown’s winner at Walsall, Lindsay’s header, Thiam nearly breaking the net live on Sky, Cavare every time any winger tries to have a physical battle with him, been plenty
Overview opinion on the how the season met your expectations and mark out of ten. Thought we’d have won the league personally, but wasn’t to be. The football we played at times was a joy to behold. 9.5/10 Stars/ flops: Adam Davies, id slated him constantly for the past year and was hoping he’d find pastures new pre-season. Superb. Alex Mowatt, too. Absolutely outstanding when we all thought his Barnsley career was over. Flops is a hard one, but I’d go for Lloyd Isgrove. Biggest surprise:Jacob Brown and Cam Mcgeehan. Was gutted about Dougalls injury, but it worked out brilliantly for Cam. Best and worst away fans: Hard one again. Best probably Bradford. Worst Fleetwood. Best and worst away day: My best would have to be Rochdale, lovely summers evening and the football we played was sensational. We could’ve had ten and that’s no exaggeration. Worst, Shrewsbury, had way way too much to drink, spent most of the time in the toilet throwing my guts up, the other parts I was asleep in my seat. Moment that made you smile: The celebrations after Brown won us the game at Walsall. Kieffer’s return after that horrific injury.
Season overall: 9/10. We kind of slid home but then I have to think record points total and unbeaten at home with a great record of clean sheets. Hard league to bounce back out of. Stars: Ethan pinnock. Class, sheer class. Moore, if he'd not been injured we'd be champs by a country mile.flops: isgrove Biggest surprise: mowatt. Didn't see this coming, the new hourihane. Best home fans: Accrington Stanley, nice people Best away fans: Bradford, wished they'd stayed up Best away day: Accrington Stanley, one big party. Great fans and a club that made an effort for us Worst away day: didn't have one What made you smile: Browns goal at walsall. Never liked Midlands fans much and felt that the gods were smiling on us that day New category: what wound you up the most: cam' s retrospective ban. Seen worse every game, third rate talking heads painting a spineless FA into a corner
Overview opinion on the how the season met your expectations and mark out of ten: 10/10 Automatic promotion. Can't ask for any more than that. Luton were far and away the best side to visit Oakwell, so I can't begrudge them finishing top. Stars/ flops: Great spine. Davies had a phenomenal season, especially during the business end. Pinnock, Lindsay (and Jackson when needed) were solid, Cam and Mowatt excelled, and our strikers were on the money week in, week out. No flops. Biggest surprise: Stendel's grasp of English. Jacob Brown's grasp of professional football. Best and worst away fans: Special mention to Burton. Otherwise nowt to say. Best and worst away day: n/a Moment that made you smile: Mama's delight every time he scored. Stendel's enthusiasm. Moore's return from injury. MorpethMackem07
Overview opinion on the how the season met your expectations and mark out of ten: Tipped us to win the league with 100+ points which would have happened if Moore and Woodrow both hadn't missed significant periods of the season. Still got promoted though, but as runners up so 9/10 Stars/ flops: Woodrow for his vast amount of goals even though he missed three months. Special mention to Bahre who's come to a country he's never played in, a country that doesn't speak his first language and he's played in 42 games in all competitions, during a promotion season. The flops would be Isgrove for his lack of games when he will have been one of our highest earners (I guess) and Adeboyejo who started the season with 3 goals in 7 games and ended it with 1 goal in 24 games. Biggest surprise: How well we coped with so many disruptions. Key players missing for big periods (Moore, Woodrow, Dougall), selling Potts, losing our CEO, losing our assistant head coach..... Best and worst away fans: Shrewsbury fans were pretty good. They brought more than I thought they would and looked to have a vast majority of young uns, so they are doing something right as a club. Worst would be Fleetwood for barely taking 150 on such a short journey, especially for a Saturday afternoon game. Best and worst away day: Peterborough takes some beating. We were fantastic all afternoon, three different scorers, clean sheet, brilliant atmosphere and Steve Evans getting plenty of stick. Shrewsbury would be the worse for me. We played bad at Burton where we also lost 3-1, but we were even more terrible at Shrewsbury, lost Dougall to a shocking challenge and the journey home was long from a night game. Moment that made you smile: After returning from a head injury, the first touch Moore had being a header flicked on. Special mention to the overweight Southend physio in the fitness industry but not looking the part.
Overview: Great season. 99% of players stepped up to the mark. Feel good factor returned big style. Football great to watch. A few great away days with great fans. Club performed both on and OFF the pitch. 9.5 / 10 Stars/ flops: Mowatt / McGeehan / Pinnock / Davies / Woodrow / Brown all stars. No real flops, but after two goals in the opening two games I was concerned that Victor didn't kick on. Oh, and Lloyd Izntfit. Biggest surprise: Probably the reincarnation of Mowatt / McGeehan. And that after the last 'unknown' manager appointment, this one came good. Best and worst away fans: Bradford City. I always go in Dove before match and Shrewsbury / Oxford were all class and friendly. Never saw many crap fans (as in, Bolton class) in the pub but I suppose Donny are the most uninspiring and unexciting. Best and worst away day: Best, Bradford City with a few from here, followed by Plymouth in the Sun. Can't say I had a bad away day but didn't get to many. Moment that made you smile: The Oxford home game. Seeing Daniels reactions and thinking "eyup, he could be a good un". And the Sunderland Message board, March - May 2019. Honourable mention to the Southend physio.
Overview opinion on the how the season met your expectations and mark out of ten: Brilliant and far exceeding my expectations. I thought we'd struggle to finish top 6 given how bad we were last season and that we had taken another gamble on a manager who didn't know the English game and was new to the language. But League One turned out to be less challenging than I thought and Stendel did an incredible job getting the lads to play in his style and take the game to opponents. Nine out of ten. Stars/ flops: Pinnock and Mowatt have been exceptional and genuinely the best in the league which you've rarely been able to say about a Barnsley player. Head and shoulders above the rest. Hard to pick a flop really out of those who have played. Biggest surprise: Mowatt playing 90 minutes of every game with mad dog intensity. I thought he was immobile and would be finished with us after an underwhelming year on loan at Oxford. Now I think he's a box-to-box Duracell bunny who could play in the Premier League. Best and worst away fans: Thought Doncaster brought a good lot who made noise. Can't remember anyone being particularly bad. Best and worst away day: Bradford the second game in. We looked like the real deal already who would be able to blow teams away. Luton worst just because I couldn't go with it being New Year's Day. Moment that made you smile: Any number of times Stendel did his spin-kick celebration over a Reds player winning a tackle
Overview opinion on the how the season met your expectations and mark out of ten: 10/10. Brilliant levels of commitment, endurance and character to bounce back from relegation. Stars/ flops: Lloyd Isgrove Biggest surprise: Jacob Brown Best and worst away fans: Blackpool/Sunderland Best and worst away day: Peterborough/Shrewsbury Moment that made you smile: Brown scoring a last minute winner/Miraculous results THAT Saturday afternoon!
Short version. Moment that made you smile. Sat at the bar in Chennals on a Tuesday night watching Sky Sports News. Portsmouth 2 Peterborough 3 Fleetwood 2 Sunderland 1 Mission accomplished.
Overview opinion on the how the season met your expectations and mark out of ten: 10/10 excelled ourselves with more or less the same team that got us relegated, a coach that as so much passion and belief (more than morais lol) Stars/ flops: cam mcgeehan and alex mowatt stars and flops Moncur & Isgrove (pinched a wage) Biggest surprise: Cauley Woodrow .. never really did anything til he came to us Best and worst away fans: best fans wimbledon worst bradford based on my 3 home games Best and worst away day: portsmouth best away weekend gillingham worst away day (like being in jeremy kyle country) Moment that made you smile: sky sports tuesday 23rd april thank you ivan toney
