So who do you think is our REAL Derby match if ya have to pick one game..... always think now its wendys but as a kid them, Weeds and t'other Sheffield lot were well above us so tended to look at Rotherham and Donny as at our level, in fact it was Rotherham for quite a while who stirred the Derby bug. wot do you think.

We've shared the 2nd tier with the Sheffield clubs for most of my time watching, so those two for me.

Hard really as we aren't anyone else's main rival either. The Sheffield games and Leeds are the biggest from our perspective but from there's we aren't even the 2nd biggest game for them.

If we are viewing it from our perspective, our biggest rivalry is both Sheffield teams.

From a neutral perspective however thats where it gets complicated. We consider Sheff Weds/United our biggest rivals even though they probably view us 3rd after the other Sheffield club and Leeds. They look at us the same way we look at Doncaster and Rotherham, a local derby but we've got bigger fish to fry and we believe we are the bigger better team.

Depends upon who you grew up with and who you work with. I grew up with a few Wednesday fans who always thought they were special. United didn't do anything in the mid to late nineties to really give their fans anything to brag about, and I didn't know any Leeds fans. As I got older, working with Wednesday fans from Hoyland became irritating, then amusing when they had their struggles. I found myself often on the same side with United fans giving stick to the pigs until the Morgan and Hume incident. I imagine the majority of deedars don't really care about us, but the ones I am/was in contact with do.

For me it’s Leeds, closely followed by Wednesday with the Blunts in distant third.

Donny and Rotherham don’t really figure.

Coming from Hudds it has to be them for me, followed by Sheff clubs and Leeds.

Can't honestly say I give any more thought to one team more than any other, they're all just 3 points and I hate all teams equally... Apart from Reading, they can get to fukc.

When I was younger it seemed to be Bradford. The biggest nastiest most violent fans i’d ever seen.
Growing up in Cudeth meant there was a Leeds fan around every corner. Can’t stand em. By some distance it gives the most pleasure to turn them over.
I find it more difficult to get excited about Real Wednesday. They just seem....well....a bit silly. Like taking the piss out of someone with learning difficulties - you just shouldn’t do it.

Wednesday for me, no comparison. Probably due to being surrounded by people choosing them over Barnsley when I was growing up in Penistone in the 80s and 90s whilst they were in their pomp. Can't stand 'em. Their poxiness. Their rusty ground. Or their songs about Carlton Palmer smoking marijuana.

Never had anything against Leeds, big city big club should be doing better. I’ve worked with a few snide wendy fans and always found them a bit too superior so beating them at swillsbro next season will be fine !!

Both Sheffield teams. As already mentioned, we seem to have played them more regularly than the others.

Leeds after them, purely because I live in the middle of loads of Leeds fans and have always had the banter with them.

Donny, Rotherham, Bradford and Huddersfield less so.

When I first started watching Barnsley, we were regularly playing Donny & Rotherham. However, the matches against Bradford City were the ones that generated the most hostile atmosphere & violence on the terraces, on the pitch and through the streets. Nothing came close.
It makes me laugh, though, when supporters of the likes of Leeds, Wednesday & United pitifully try to over egg their condescension of us with their insistence we mean nothing to them. Especially when they devote so much time and space on their various forums to it!:D

We don't have a derby against anyone.

There are no other teams from Barnsley in the league.

A true derby game is from a rival in the same town or city - Blades v Wednesday, Liverpool v Everton, Villa v Brum.

All this South Coast derby, Yorkshire derby stuff is bullcrap.
