Scrap women's sport. Make them play against men as equals and I guarantee none would get a game at any sport.
According to stats in the Times they're on an average of £26k per annum. Good luck getting a mortgage in London on that.
I agree that there should be equal pay. Men should also be paid £30 grand a year...... it would certainly help the smaller clubs retain their talent.
History wise during ww1 women's football was very popular. This carried on after the war until the FA banned them from playing on their pitches. Had they been allowed to continue who knows how popular it would have become?
I would like to know how a foreign footballer, plying her trade in the French women's league, can win the BBC Women's footballer of the year award? Surely this award should be purely open to a domestic female footballer from a British league. Unless she is a good role model for the BBCs program for encouraging and promoting women in sport and in general (pundits, commentators etc). I might be being cynical, but can't think of any other reason. If it was overseas footballer fine, but surely our domestic female footballers won't be happy that this award seems to be open to the world. They have separate men's awards for overseas player of the year, so should do the same in the women's game.
Not bitter. More like confused. Why is someone who already receives more money and exposure than most people do, moaning about not receiving enough money and exposure? I'm all for equality but you have to factor in demand. Women's football (in general) is played at a level that is probably around the same as amateur 5-a-side and I don't know many folk who would pay to see that.
More than I thought then. Probably more than male players get in the Scottish Championship and below.
Possibly so, lowest average wage in SPL was Livingston at £35k per annum. My daughters play football and their club (Penistone Church) is affiliated with Sheffield United Ladies (the local team playing at the highest level, Championship i.e. second tier) and we get players coming to training periodically. They all have essentially full time jobs and football supplements their income. I believe that the WSL went full-time about two years ago.
I love women but watching them play football is just boring. No disrespect. Male football generates billions and yes they get paid too much but the clubs can afford to pay it (apart from bolton).
I have no interest in many women's sporting events tbh, not that I'm sexist because I certainly ain't, I just dont find it any good ( athletics and Tennis are the only one's I enjoy watching)
