Dutch manager Henk de Jong currently finds himself in an interesting situation... He currently manages Eredivisie team De Graafschap but has to play 1st Division team Cambuur in the promotion/relegation battle. Cambuur is the team he’ll manage next season
De Graafschap is my local club from where I was born and raised (and had a season ticket in my younger years). I'm following these playoffs with great interest! Luckily there is no conflict of interest with my (newer) support for the reds, as we're unlikely to ever meet.
What if a footballer has already arranged a transfer? I believe that unless you have a reason to believe otherwise, you should assume they'll be professional about it. I'm also not sure if he'll want to have a relegation on his resume, to be followed by another one, as Cambuur only finished 10th in the Eerste Divisie, so are hardly expected to be competitive if they happen go up. Also, it's only the semi final, so it wouldn't even guarantee anything if he would "make them lose". Apart from severely damaging his reputation that is. His football isn't always very attractive, but he's managed to get some good results out of the squad anyway. I'd like him to stay on for the playoffs.
I don't know enough about it mate to be honest other than what's been said on this thread. It's a crazy situation to be in and sounds like a lose-lose situation for him.
Crisis averted (well, for my side). De Graafschap has won. But I think they'll struggle against Sparta in the finals. But we'll see what happens Saturday and next week!
Dortmund left Gotze out of the champions league final against Bayern, who he happened to be joining later that summer.
