Article in the Yorkshire Post looks to be extremely encouraging. He knows that he's reached a crossroad in his career. Sounds to me, that by experiencing life in Non- League and the lower reaches of the EFL, this unassuming lad, fully appreciates where he's at now and is settled and looking forward to life back in the Championship with us. That's not to say of course, were the right offer to come in and the Board were to accept, he'd be off, but for now,he seems and sounds to be content. Be a massive fillip if he's given a longer contract and the armband in time for next term. His very presence and his calm and positive style of play doesn't go unnoticed and must be inspirational for the younger lads in the squad. I see qualities in Ethan that I used to see years ago in one of my all time favourite Reds. Back in the day, if you saw the name Paul Futcher on the teamsheet, you knew that at least you had one very capable and reliable player in the your starting eleven. I get excactly the same feeling when I see Ethan heading out of the changing rooms with the team on a matchday. He very rarely puts a foot wrong and is someone that those players around him, must surely admire.? https://www.yorkshirepost.co.uk/spo...-to-kick-on-again-at-a-higher-level-1-9788766
I was thinking towards the end of the season that Ethan is as close to Paul Futcher as we've had since the great man left us. Very similar in style and demeanour. I'm absolutely confident that he'll step up to the Championship with absolute ease this time around.
Love him. Sort of inevitable that we will lose him to a bigger club at some point so just enjoy him while we can. Hope he decides it’s worth a punt next season keeping the squad together. Really feel they could do great things.
Futchers confidence and calmness on the ball was amazing. Never ever, saw him get ruffled even under extreme pressure. I used to admire the way he calmly mentored Carl Tiler through many a game and truly believe that playing alongside Paul could at times, make Carl look better than he really was. Carl left for Forest but with Des Walker, Chettle and Wassell all vying for a shirt, it was always going to be tough for the lad to establish himself. After Forest were relegated and Frank Clark took over from Cloughie, he did play more, but was eventually off loaded to Villa, sadly failing to realise his early potential. As for the late great Paul Futcher. Down the years I have had the pleasure of seeing some very fine players and he has a special place on my list of favourites. One of our biggest mistakes was to let him go to Grimsby when once there, as he very ably demonstrated, he still had a couple of good seasons still left in him.
Got ruffled ince when he chipped keeper from 30 yards. Still my favourite ever defender at Oakwell - made the game look so easy
It depends whether he backs himself to do well back at this level. If not, he'll take a big money move now.
Also if he believes the clubs ambition matches his or if his agent tells him he can quadruple his wages that also minght make him want to take a move away. We will see if he signs a new deal hopefully he does.
Think he might sign one year extension. Gives him guaranteed playing time plus the chance to move higher before he gets much older.
He's brilliant Pinnock. Quick, strong and has a really good footballing brain. Never seems to have to dive in because he's either in the right position or he's quick enough to recover. He also played on the right of the two last year, which must have been uncomfortable for him. Shows how much DS rates him to do that job. Seems a brilliant bloke too. Be gutted if he leaves.
I can't remember a Reds player who I've wanted to play at the top level more than Pinnock. I've been gutted with players leaving in the past but if Ethan was to go to the Premier League my chuffed-ness for him would override that. I'd love to see him up against the top players as I'm convinced he'd impress and what a great story it would be to go from non-league to playing the world's best in less than 5 years. He's better than the lad Mepham who Bournemouth paid £12million for. In an ideal world, we have a season of him in the Championship and then he gets his big move and we get some serious cash.
Well I was going to put that but thought myself a bit ridiculous. That would be so ideal I'd have a season of incontinence!
This could possibly be a deal that suits all parties but if the teams come knocking it can be hard to say no.
Hes awesome, top quality defender, but at the risk of getting some hammer, hes susceptible to a ball over the top with a striker with pace attacking it. Saw it a few times last season and in my opinion stops him from being a top top defender at premiership level, which will affect his transfer price.
I'm not going to give you hammer but I'm not sure I agree with this. He's no slouch and the first 10m are in a player's brain anyway.
