Listened to em all gonna have to give these two a miss I think, not listening to that waste of oxygen talk out his a**e for 2 hours
I remember Leon Knight being less than popular with Barnsley fans, with the reason being his poor attitude and lack of acceptable performances. I can never recall his race coming into it, but as with any large crowd, it's perfectly possible that an idiot or two shouted something, but I don't remember anything in particular from that time. The period he was with us was probably right at the end of the time where less than PC songs were occasionally aired, not necessarily racist chants, but songs or comments that wouldn't be acceptable today. I'd say 2004-2008 was the time period where attitudes properly changed and where as in the early 2000's, non-PC chants (not overtly racist such as suggested) or comments may have been ignored or tolerated, after this time I can barely recall any such incidents. The odd gobsh1te here and there naturally, but nothing on the scale possibly heard in earlier years. I do recall in 2001 or 2002 certain songs were very audible against the likes of Bradford and comments would be made in the stand and generally laughed at or tolerated. But fan culture was different then, this was a hangover from the 90's and if you look back, banning orders had only just come in and actual serious disorder was still prevalent at a lot of games, even top flight matches (Man City Chelsea etc). The whole match day feel was different possibly as late as 2003 with the trouble with Cardiff home and away. I think we all knew racism was wrong and any serious racism would have been stamped out and called out, but there seemed a more tolerant attitude towards the more light hearted comments, the such like couldn't be made now as times have moved on. I think this mirrors society though, with the 2000's seeing a seismic shift in attitudes in this country. Comparing 2001 with 2011 in terms of what was tolerated or deemed ok shows a stark difference. Whether times are changing again now, what with the division around Brexit and other issues, remains to be seen. I think nowadays Oakwell is largely free from the racism as described above, but clearly there will still be individuals who hold such views and air them unwisely occasionally. We've heard reports of such incidents this season on here. I would like to think we're like any other club now though, certainly not standing out as a lingering hotbed for outdated beliefs.
I’ve no doubt we’ve got a few racist morons & we probably had a few more back when Knight played for us but I don’t believe anything he says so won’t be giving his comments any credibility. He’s an absolute moron, anyone who’s seen his posts on twitter over the last few years will know what I’m talking about, he’s also incredibly gullible & will retweet anything & take anything as gospel.
Leon Knight got banned off the twitter for setting up something called Slag Alert. Basically sending naked pictures of your ex for him to share... Anyway, someone played him at his own game and uploaded one of him. Lets put it this way it was in proportion to the rest of him.
