Thats true but none of us would have watched him if he had been at Donny rather than us If we were in need of a right back I would have thought he was worth considering but we already have 2 and Williams has just as much potential as Bree had when he was with us. His career has been disappointing though and football wise its clear he made a wrong decision - Financially in the short term though I can understand why he made it but as others have said he would have been better off staying with us and getting more first team football. From Barnsley FC's point of view its hard to call - had he got better we would have sold him for more, had he suffered injuries and not played much or developed as we hoped we would have struggled to move him on so it probably was the right thing for us to sell him. He needs a good run of games in a lower Champ or upper L1 club to get back on track - but would probably need to take a significant wage cut
Very talented footballer & if he was affordable & played in a position where we needed strengthening then I could understand the discussion. Unfortunately he’s not affordable & we’ve got two decent right backs anyway
Highly unlikely though, instead hes got 3 years on a decent contract and will probably end up at Rotherham in a few years time.
I'm glad you said that. Saved me a job. Bree has been a touch unlucky. Alan Hutton suddenly decided to give a **** about his £60k a week contract, injuries hit him again, and then Bruce completely lost the plot to the point he played a couple of games at centre half in the infamous four right backs in the back four line-up. Ipswich fans very impressed with him by all accounts and Villa fans did too when he had that first run in the team. Doesn't mean I'd sign him based on the shape of our current squad, but I'm not going to be too critical of his career just yet when there's plenty of time still left. 14 games on the spin the end of last season will have done him the world of good.
