https://www.yorkshirepost.co.uk/spo...middlesbrough-continue-to-be-linked-1-9803348 Can't blame him waiting to find out what happens this summer first. He wouldn't want to sign up for the next three years and then have his best players sold from under him. The more he's backed with renewed contacts of key players and money in the transfer market, the more likely he will sign back up.
Stendel’s German-based representative said: “In regards to the speculation from other clubs, we saw in the betting industry that there were some rumours about Daniel going to other clubs. “At the moment, I can only say that he is under contract at Barnsley for another year and is therefore concentrating on his Barnsley future.” Well that's not reassuring in the slightest.
Agents are always going to do this- it is in both their and their client's best interests whether any truth in it or not. If they stoke the fire a little, good chance DS gets a wage rise.
Can't fault him. If any of us was a manager of a team who we had no previous allegiance to, we would want to see what resources we were getting first before committing longer term. After all, managers get sacked at the drop of a hat and the Stendels of this world may have a short shelf life if results suddenly drop off. I really hope he stays long term but the board need to back him (within reason).
l think just like the fans Stendel wants players bringing in to the club that will make us more competitive in the championship and that’s about it don’t think that’s asking too much.
I would be a bit disappointed in him if he didnt see us get as far as we could. At the end of the day it was Barnsley that took the punt on him. I know ges ambitious so he probably wobt be with us long but we've not kicked a ball in the championship under him yet.
Lazy journalism. The representative says "he's only concentrating on Barnsley" Not in any betting I've seen.I think its just an assumption from the paper that he's waiting to see his budget. It fills a few gaps in the paper I suppose.
I see this as sensible move by Stendel. By wanting assurances about squad strengthening he's effectively flushing the owners out in terms of their long term aims at Oakwell. He's obviously well informed and knows that Hecky had a team sold from under him, causing him to lose the plot and making relegation a certainty. Why would Stendel want to go down with the ship when his stock is high currently? In fact our favourite German could be doing us all a favour by bring this to a head now before a ball is kicked and points have been lost. The paradox is that a sensible response to getting promotion is to strengthen the side to cope with better competition. Yet we are all worried that it will be significantly weaker. As for the YP making too much of this - the agent has obviously volunteered a quote to Leon, but we don't know what was said off the record to provide a context.
I'm not worried that our squad will be significantly weaker for the upcoming campaign, as I don't believe that will be the case.
I'm not convinced Middlesbrough woujd rixk appointing him. Maybe if we'd played in the championship already and hed carried on in the same vein as we have in league 1. I'd say a bit too risky for a team that I imagine would see anything other than play offs as unacceptable.
I suppose we will have to just wait and see. Hopefully we can get the right players in to enhance our existing squad. Do that and you would hope that even if he doesn't want to sign an extension right now, he would at the very least, see out his existing 12 month deal. If he signed now and we had a great season next term, he would possibly not be in a position to negotiate an improved contract, so it might be a wise move on his part, to wait. I take some comfort from the words of Chris Stearn a few weeks ago. Granted it was before any interest from Middlesbrough or Swansea began to surface, but he commented that Daniel and himself were really looking forward to the Clubs return to the Championship next season.
Very true no loyalty in football, all comes down to most of all money and the ambition of playing/coaching at higher levels.
True. Stendel isn’t daft. He will have researched the clubs history over this last 15 years. And it’s ABYSMAL. This has to change. And I strongly believe that the owners want it to change. The 64 thousand dollar question is this - how quickly do the owners want it to change? ‘Not going crazy’ is something that was said at the press conference. That saying has no meaning because it does not have parameters. Policy of total reliance on youth could result in Stendel actually leaving the club.
I don't think it will be the reliance on youth that will result in stendel leaving. I think if we fail to get any of pinnock,Lindsay, mcgeehan or thiam on new deals and he isn't backed by the board in terms of incomings (and the calibre of young players we go for) and outgoings.
