Most of the scottish press are saying Celtic bid £1m and we've had a higher bid rejected. We've got to up the ante at some point if we want to be a mid-table championship club.
Probably Burnley, not us as we seem to get confused with them every season. I would be amazed if we are waving million pound bids around.
I think that to enable us to "properly" compete in the Championship and to also demonstrate to our supporters, but more importantly Daniel Stendel himself, the close season of 2019/20 could be a defining period. We know that our strategy is to sign younger players as cheap as possible, who we are able to improve and then sell on for a large profit later. After the disappointment of our relegation at the close of 2017/18 season, I sincerely hope, that to establish the Club in the Championship, the Board are prepared to attempt to sign players of the ilk of Turnbull and Kerr. If the right quality does become available, it will be interesting to see if they are willing to exceed our previous record transfer fee. Although the exact figures were never published, I would think we probably had to lay out substantial fees to land the likes of Ethan Pinnock and Cauley Woodrow, who were we to sell now, would surely return considerably more than what we originally paid for them.
We sell Potts in January for roughly £2m and try to reinvest it in a player with more potential for the same price. Seems feasible to me.
Thought we knew what we'd payed for Woodrow? If our signings fit in and do as well for us as he has last season it will be fine by me.
Thought £750k has been quoted? Which if true is quite a large signing for us of late and a league one club in turmoil(last summer). A point that seems to have been missed by a lot of board/club bashing posters.
Every summary I've read on Cauley, says the fee we paid for him was undisclosed, although given what we saw from him last season, given that he was registered with a Premiership Club, he was a bargain at £750k, if that's what we paid for him of course. The lad must have been really keen to get his career on a more stable footing and it's a sign of how together the majority of this current squad are, that he's now committed his future by signing a contract extension out to 2022. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cauley_Woodrow
The more I have read of this story, the more I am convinced by it and that we have offered more than Celtic. Whether we get him or not will depend on how the competition shakes down between us and Celtic. I would think that Motherwell will cash in at around £2 million, but it will be a game of who blinks first. Better not be us. What impresses me is that the club has clearly identified targets, has got offers quickly on the table and is offering realistic fees, which shows ambition to build the team as a Championship club with prospects for further progress. Good stuff. I just hope that we do manage to land our top targets. Luke Thomas looks a done deal and is being reported as £1.2 million in the local press down here. The media was quoting £2 million, so £1.2 is better for us, although there may be add-ons. Maybe we are doing the same with Turnbull. Just need a goalie as competition for Jack Walton and at least one central, or wide striker and, maybe, a central defender if Lindsay is on his way, which looks possible. The Austrian looks useful, if we get him. Jason Kerr - I thought that this one had gone quiet. Maybe not. We seem to have missed out on Mario Engels - strange one that - would have thought he would have jumped at the prospect. Exciting times. Just hope we do land our top targets.
