Oh btw, special mention to the Portuguese police they’ve been excellent through this week. Nothing but help in my experience and let the party atmosphere flow.

Yeah I totally agree mate. We go back late tomorrow. I wouldn’t mind coming back to Porto for a game wether that be England or Porto. Not bothered about Guimarães again though, that hill back to the train station still has my breath.

Their only failure was the organisation of trains back on Thursday night and the crushing that ensued but by and large pretty good humoured both sides.

Lightweight you should have walked a bit further on to where the squares surrounded by bushes were very flat that way and a nice restaurant full of tarn, Donny and Hudders with lovely food not a hill on site. Well to walk up anyway.

Was in Portugal for most of Euro 2004 including the the other semi in porto. Had a great time.

Fifa had a really badly written ticketing site that allowed me to change the javascript to order tickets I wanted a year after they went off sale I had a about 30 for the England semi as well as all england games, the other semi and final as well as a few others

I remember the news reports from Orgreave. On the BBC. And It looked for all the world that the miners had attacked the police, who were simply trying to defend themselves. What the watching public didn't know, of whom I was one, what only those present knew, was that as well as serious examples of police brutality being omitted, the footage was played in the wrong order. The police weren't defending themselves against against an attack by the miners, it was the other way around. The police had stormed the miners, with batons blazing. They weren't defending, they were attacking.

I don't know what has gone on with the England fans. I don't condone violent behaviour. But I don't necessarily believe the story we were shown is the full or accurate picture.

Agree with all the sentiments around the England fans and all the locals. Great atmosphere and lovely people. Local cafe owner had his wife drive us back to our Guimaraes hotel on Thursday night and refused to take any money (eventually they took €30 from us). Saved us from the rain and the three mile walk, but everyone we interacted with was super friendly and loving having the Finals there.

Same in Porto as we stayed there on Saturday and Sunday and did both games yesterday. Our Air BnB host couldn’t have been more accommodating and he found us a driver for the day on Sunday who took us to Guimaraes and then fetched us back to Porto after the England game so we were at the stadium in plenty of time for the final. Got the final tickets from an Indonesian family who’d travelled all the way only to get an email from UEFA on the day they arrived saying no children under six allowed - their son was nearly three years old. Football mad family and loved travelling to wherever England were playing. The same kid had been to games in Russia when he was just 18 months.

I have to disagree with you on the police front though. Not sure if you were already in the ground but getting in to the ground on Thursday was awful. Police opened gates, England fans shouted for them not to, they then closed gates, stopped letting fans through, took over from the stewards who had to retreat to the back fence/water features from the police and could do nothing but apologise for the police, who wouldn’t answer any questions like ‘can you please just tell me how I get in the ground now’ once they’d blocked things off. Hundreds behind the goal must have missed the first ten minutes, and then all the gangways behind the goal were rammed with fans arriving late and just watching stood up. We made a swerve right across to the left and ended up with a great view just stood at the top of the gangway looking over the corner flag - but it wasn’t our seats because we couldn’t get anywhere near it. We didn’t even have a seat.

The police were aggressive too despite no bad behaviour from England fans. They just had a meltdown and lost control in a crazy 30 minute spell.

Noticed they’d brought in English and Swiss stewards for the Sunday game to help the Portuguese stewards. Directing people where to go, explaining the entry system, etc. Super civilised. Although I’m not naive enough to think that the 2pm kick off and the 50% attendance vs. Thursday didn’t help with that.

One of the best football weekends I’ve ever had. Portuguese fans going mental for the final, England fans singing about Harry Maguire inside and out, joining in Portuguese songs, etc. Top class.

We must have been lucky entered through access A and then into stadium through gate 1. Took no more than 2 minutes to get through both points. I have heard of some of the issues at other gates but thankfully we had none apart from the station coming back from Guimaraes.

Same as this. I entered access B where I entered the stadium in no more than 5 mins. Zero issue. However it seems only 10 minutes later at the same gate there was carnage trying it get in.

Had no issue getting in all 3 games I attended this week. I was sceptical about these mobile ticketing at first but from a personal point of view I’ve found it straight forward and I genuinely think it will be common practice using this method in the future. I get that a few had issues with it so it like anything else these teething problems need ironing out.
